HI Cheryl,

You and your uncle are in MA? It's been 2 weeks. I know the package is
not an envelope, but a bubble envelope, so it doesn't go through the
machinery, but it's been 2 weeks. I'll call them Thursday and ask. Kit

I mailed my uncles FF kit out on June 7th, and have yet to get a notice
that they even got it. Should I be concerned or do you think there is a

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Family Finder DNA results are starting to trickle in

2012-06-20 Thread Cheri Mello
Gail and others who want to know,

Here's the gory details.

When a kit is purchased for the first time, Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) in
Houston, Texas will mail out a kit to you within 1-2 business days (sales
seem to take longer; orders placed over the weekend sometimes take a couple
of days to get the kit out). The postal service takes however long to get
to the customer based on location from Houston, Texas.

Once you get it, you follow the directions and mail it back. However long
that takes.

Once it is received in Houston, you receive an automated response from
FTDNA saying the kit has been received. Then your DNA vials are placed in
a batch with others to be overnighted to the lab at the University of
Arizona. This happens every Wednesday night. The vials are there on
Thursday.

First the geneticists begin extraction, then sequencing, then the
verification. Two geneticists must read your data forwards and then
backwards and both readings between both geneticists must agree. Then the
results are sent back to FTDNA in Houston. Depending on the size of the
batch and the test ordered, this can take anywhere from 4 - 6 weeks.

Bennett Greenspan, president and founder, then releases your results and
your personal "MyFTDNA" becomes active. An automated response is then
generated to say your DNA results are in.

For those who have ordered one type of DNA testing in the past and want to
order a different test, once the fee is paid, FTDNA sends notification to
the University of Arizona and they pull the vials (stored for at least 25
years). The process of extraction, sequencing, etc, begins.

As for the matches in Family Finder, that's another email I've been working
on with screen shots. Let me see if I can finish that one up.

a kit. FTDNA just pulled their vials and started processing them. So
people whose DNA was received at the lab in late May are starting to get

Marriages on VitalSearch-California are from 1949-1986 only. :(

As for Random Acts Of Genealogical Kindness (RAOGK): The main person
behind it, Bridgett became ill in October of last year and said that it
needed to temporarily stop. She died a month later. Her husband said he
would bring it back when he was able. In the meantime, someone else is

Trying to find an obit for Antone S. Leal who died in 1939 in Irvington
(Fremont) CA buried St. Joseph Cemetery. Sorry, we don't have the exact date
yet but thought you might be able to search by name/year. So far, I have not
been able to find the obit on Ancestry. Can you? I did find his wife's obit.

Mike,
Before becoming Fremont, Irvington was a district in Alameda County.  If you
are looking for records you will be looking in the Alameda County records.  The
church records will be found in the church in the district of Irvington.  I
can't remember the name of the church; however, I am sure someone on the list

I don't understand Word of what is written there, where did you locate these so
I know where to look. The O'Neill's are my great grandmothers 2nd husband but
she had no children with him or with her 3rd husband Clare McNaney. Knowing
that Irvington is now Fremont will help. The Faial records aren't online yet.
can you tell where you're finding this out? The cemetery didn't tell me
anything I didn't already know.

I don;t have time for a perfect translation, but here goes a loose one.

Notice of June 4, 1932-Page 4.

Thursday was the funeral of Mrs. Maria Leal Pereira (note this name is often
changed to be Perry) which left from the home of the deceased on 121 Rockland
Street in South Darthmouth at 8:15 in the morning to Saint Mary's Church,
Padanaram where there was a requiem (high) mass for her soul celebrated by
Reverend Francis Duffy. There were many participants at the funeral. The pall
bearers were Virginio daSilva,Wiiliam O'neill, Frank Peters, Charles Oneill,
Antonio Pereira and Walter O'neill, and the body was buried in St John the
Baptist Cemetery in this city.
