[AZORES-Genealogy] Missing pages from Centro De Conhecimento site
I've just started to research the Moraes side of my family in the Azores. I've found the baptismal records for all my aunts uncles born in Faial. Using them I've been able to locate the baptismal record for my grandmother from Pico. Everything points to my grandfather having been born on San Miguel in Lagoa in Agua do Pau (although interestingly, unlike my grandmother, his parents names are never listed on any of the records for their children). I've searched the baptismal records for Serafino de Moraes in the ledgers from that parish/freguesia for 1873 (the year I've been told he was born). He wasn't listed, so I started to look at 1874 but the first few pages are missing (the ledger starts at number 4). Is there any to find out if that's just an oversight or if they are truly missing from the original ledger. Thanks for any help you can provide. -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to azores+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. Follow the confirmation directions when they arrive. Luci, I'd look at the film first to see if they are missing there. Then email the CCA if you do find # 1-3 on film. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Missing pages from Centro De Conhecimento site
Lucy, I went to CCA site and cannot get image 0002 to come up I keep getting an error message and when I went to 0003, I got the page that starts with #4 which is the one you have seen. If you look closely you can see the bleed through of the page that precedes the page of image 0003. So the pages are not lost but for some reason the CCA site is having a problem. I would keep checking the site to see if image 0002 comes up. There is a very good chance the images of records 1-3 (actually 1, 2, and the first part of 3) are on the films from the LDS. If the problem is not fixed on the CCA site in a few days I would contact them by email. [AZORES-Genealogy] Need help with my ancestors from Rabo de Peixe - S. Miguel
I’m in luck again! It seems that harvest times finally knocked at my door. I found the freguesia of my great grandmother Maria Tavares in S. Miguel! She was the only one from S. Miguel who was lost in my line. I’ve been looking for her for more than 10 years and thanks again to the italian priest in Cravinhos, Brazil, the marriage record for her brother Manuel in 1899 does mention the freguesia of his parents: Vila do Peixe, ilha de S. Miguel. She is from Rabo de Peixe! Wow! All generations suddenly blooming up all over; dear grandparents no longer lost in the mists of time! I am really feeling happy. My great grandmother Maria is daughter of Manuel Tavares de Medeiros and Maria Carreiro. Manuel also appears as Taveira de Medeiros in one record, and Maria Carreiro as Maria de Jesus. Manuel Tavares de Medeiros and Maria Carreiro married in Rabo de Peixe, S. Miguel, around 1875. As far as I know they had the following children: Manuel, born about 1878 Maria, born about 1881 Antonio, born about 1885 Not sure but, Manuel Tavares de Medeiros or Taveira de Medeiros, born in Rabo de Peixe, seems to be son of Antonio Jacinto de Medeiros and Maria José (m. 1843 in Rabo de Peixe), and paternal grandson of João Francisco Tavares de Brum and Inacia Taveira, daughter of Manuel de Medeiros Silva and Quiteria Rosa de Bettencourt. I have the Canto’s index for Rabo de Peixe but it ends in 1844 and I don´t have access to the film for Rabo de Peixe marriages. Can someone do a look up for me to find the marriage record for Manuel Tavares de Medeiros and Maria Carreiro married around 1875 in Rabo de Peixe? I would appreciate it so much. Rick I have had that problem the past few days too. If I wait a few seconds after getting that message and click again I can get the image to pull up. You also might check the marriage section, sometimes baptism will be list in the marriage, you will have to click on the year of records. Once pulled up look tope left where it names the church and if its a baptism or marriage. The baptism for Lagoa in Rosario for 1861 are not online, but they do exist. Thanks to all of you. I've never accessed LDS records, but will try to do that. If the records are there, I'll advise CCA. I was able to get to the 002 page after repeated tries. It doesn't contain records 1 - 3. However, I did find a Seraphim in another parish. I'll be posting it and asking for some help with the translation. It's my first attempt at translating from Portuguese. I was able to get a bit, but it doesn't look like a typical record with a father mother listed! [AZORES-Genealogy] Another one of those missing pages?
Hi everyone, This is my first post in this forum though I've been 'checking it out' for some time. I'd just like to get a few opinions based on the eyesight of others :-) Bit of an odd question, but ... does the binding as seen on this casamentos page (page 87http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-PV-BISCOITOS-C-1561-1633/TER-PV-BISCOITOS-C-1561-1633_item1/P87.html) look like there should be a physical page *attached* to the left? To me it does, but when I view page 86, there is an 11 year gap in the records! Sadly, the partial record at the top of page 87 is that of my ancestor ... but of course, I am only making this assumption since half the record is missing! I've gone through every single page of this book online hoping the missing pages might simply be placed out of order, but it's definitely not there. It isn't a big deal as all the other names mentioned on page 87 point to the right person but it would be nice to see it in writing. I'd like to get in touch with the CCA to query about this but before doing that, I thought I'd post and find out what others think. Also, would anyone know why there would be so many witnesses mentioned? There are 11 names ... assuming they are all witnesses to the marriage. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Missing pages from Centro De Conhecimento site
Hi Luci, I was afraid that 0002 was not records as it us usually an intro page in other books. It looks like they missed the page with the records 1, 2, and the start of 3. I just checked again and got 0002 open and if you look closely you can see bleed through of writing on the back just as you can see bleed through on 0003. The record exist it just was missed when the put the records on the CCA site. So right now the options are to order the film from the LDS or notify the CCA. It looks like the pages were put in clear archival plastic document protectors and as such they were taken out of the book.
