John,

In the Cedros Flores parish records I've seen both a Dias Silveira and da
Silveira Dias families.
So , it could be the same guy

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Searching Madruga, Cardoza - Azores

2013-02-17 Thread riverview
Edgar,
First, I want to thank you for all the time you have taken to help me. I have
now connected with my cousin Eleanor and we have compared many records. What
you sent seemed to be a perfect fit until we realized that this Mary P Joseph
died at age 89 in the Azores. All the names and facts were too good to be true.
Our great great grandmother Mary P (Madruga) is listed in the census as
bookkeeper for the family grocery store on friend street. There were in fact 3
Mary P's. The first was the grandmother to Manuel Madruga - the one married to
Phillipa (Cardoza) Madruga. The 2nd was an infant that died at birth. The 3rd
was the oldest girl of Manuel and Phillipa, grandmother to ELEANOR - my long
lost cousing. So if Mary P (1) worked in the grocery store she could not have
died in the Azores - unless she went back. So far I have been unable to find
any record of her in Gloucester.
Also, we have now confirmed that Manuel Madruga, born June 15, 1853 was
naturalized in Gloucester in August, 1894. He arrived from Peak (Pico) about
October 15, 1870.
Any advice is appreciated.

Here is the birth record for their son, Arthur. Iy shows Manuel
birthplace as Pico. From my family research in Pico, I know that Pereira
Madruga is seen often in the Lajes das Pico Concelho, Cardoso is also
concentraed in that area.

Since you have a birthdate, you should take look throug the
parish records at the NNEPS site for the area.
