[AZORES-Genealogy] California Marriage Record from 1899

2013-12-12 Thread Eddie Machado
Hi All,

Does anyone know where I can find images of the California, County
Marriages, 1850-1953? I found a record on familysearch.org, but would like
to see an image if possible. Also I was hoping to find a newspaper record
to go along with it. The marriage is between Frank A. Machado and Caroline
(Carrie) Cardoza January 31, 1899. I looked on the Californoia Newspaper
collection with no luck.

Thanks,
Eddie Machado

2013-12-12 Thread Cheri Mello
Bob C,

Go to www.familysearch.org
Click on Search.
Next screen, scroll down to the bottom and click on United States.
Next screen, left column, click California.
Then you will see the link for California, County Marriage, 1850-1952.
Here's the direct link: http://goo.gl/m90RHP

Eddie, It says that you should be able to see the image. But my computer
is saying something about a stopped plug-in or something. Otherwise, I
think I should be able to view them.

As for the newspaper record, you did not state which county. If it's Los
Angeles, the Los Angeles Times is online through Proquest.

2013-12-12 Thread Eddie Machado
Hi Cheri,

I am able to view other records from the California, County Marriage,
1850-1952, just not ones from that film. Interesting enough there are 2
records for the marriage date of January 31, 1899 and one for Feb 13, 1899.
I contacted Marion County and they said they have a record for Feb 13,
1899. I may just pay the $14 and get a copy from them.

2013-12-12 Thread Marilyn Thompson
The marriage may not be until 13 February 1899. I believe the license may
have been filled out 31 Jan 1899. Without seeing the actual documents these
dates could represent the date of license, date of marriage, and /or
date the marriage was recorded

2013-12-12 Thread Marilyn Thompson
You may want to wait about a week before buying if the need for it is not
urgent. The digital copies may be in the process of being uploaded. If I
get a reply to my feedback ( usually in 24-48 hours) they may tell me what
is happening with the images that are not seen.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] California Marriage Record from 1899

2013-12-12 Thread luiznoia .
Following that link shows that no image is available

There is an indexing problem here. These are Marin County Vital records. If
you view the three different entries of this marriage for digital file
numbers

*Digital Folder Number: 004540544- not available online *

*Digital Folder Number: 004666522-- not available online *

*Digital Folder Number: 004666539- not available online. *

There are no images available for this because the entry is derived from
the Index film.

*Note Location Collection/Shelf Film/DGS*

*Marriage license index, v. 1-2 1873-1934 Family History Library United
States & Canada Film 981524 *

*Marriage licenses, v. C-D 1881-1897 Family History Library United States &
Canada Film 981525 *
Marriage licenses, v. E-F 1897-1902 Family History Library United States &
Canada Film 981526

Only the E-F volume is filmed for the time period, so you won't be able to
get the actual license sheet.

Are you after the record to find their parents names? The civil records
from this period probably won't have parents listed. Maybe Catholic Church
records will have that.

If you decide to order the marriage record, ask them if you can also have a
copy of the papers they filled out to obtain a marriage license. This
had more info on it for one I ordered from MA than did the actual marriage

[AZORES-Genealogy] Help tracking down Immigration and Baptismal Record for John Perry - Sao Miguel

2013-12-12 Thread Kawika322
I am trying to track down the immigration/ship passenger record for a
relative John Perry. From everything I found, he was most likely from the
Ponta Delgada area of Sao Miguel, and his birthday dates ranges from
December 1875 to 1879 based on various records (census, WWI draft register,
petitition for naturalization), but it could be different years. His
petition for naturalization record in Sacramento only states when he came
from Hawaii to California, but not when he came from Azores to Hawaii. The
census records say state he immigrated sometime around 1895. One ship came
in 4 April 1895 - The S.S. Braunfels.

One baptismal record of his first child Maria states his name as Joao Damos
Pareira. I searched the Index to Portugal Manifests on the Hawaii Archives
website and found a likely match - Joao Pereira Damaso who arrived on the
S.S. Braunfels in 1895.

http://archives1.dags.hawaii.gov/gsdl/collect/indextop/index/assoc/HASHeb18/98cce7a3.dir/doc.pdf

It does not state is age but only he was from Delgada. I tried to look up
the record on the handwritten ship passenger manifests from the Portuguese
Consulate - It is microfilmed and available at the Family History Library
#1017125, but I could not find an entry of a Joao Pereira Damaso for some
reason on that ship. Maybe I missed it. The typed index card where I found
his name has #257, sheet 6 written on it. From what I can tell, this does
not correlate with the hand written numbers on the ship passenger lists.
Does anyone know what the original source info for the index cards is?

Also, I am not sure on the names of his parents. The California Death
Record Index lists his father's last name as Camara and mother's last name
as Joseph. I have heard the family name of Camara from other cousins but it
has never been confirmed how the Camara (or Pereira Camara) name is
connected. He always went by John Perry.

Any info would be helpful,

 Thanks,

  David
