As far as Angela's grandparents, you would probably have to find the

baptism, if the years go back that far. I doubt the grandparents are going
 to be listed.

As for Angela's parents, they're Manuel da Sa' Bettentcourt (bitencourt,

I can't read portuguess either, I can only understand certain words...but,
as Mara indicated, Joanna is a native of Brazil, but was baptized in this

Emigration leaving the Azores is in the passsaportes. Go to tombo.pt, click

Hi,

Goto familysearch.org they have the actual immigration cards, with pictures,
for Rio de Janeiro 1900-1965, and Sao Paulo, 1902-1980.

I would suggest that you become familiar with familysearch...they have many
collections available to view online, and if not, you can order the microfilm.

Hello,

No, I'm not working on Gaspar's line, but I do have interests in Azorean
emigration to Brazil.

As far as Angela's grandparents, you would probably have to find the marriage
of Angela's parents; or you may get lucky and find it on her baptism, if the
years go back that far. I doubt the grandparents are going to be listed.

As for Angela's parents, they're Manuel da Sa' Bettentcourt (bitencourt, or
variations), and Theresa de Jesus.
I can't read portuguess either, I can only understand certain words...but, as
Mara indicated, Joanna is a native of Brazil, but was baptized in this
particular church.

We might be 4th Cousins listed in Family Finder, but Antonio da Costa

Da Costa Vieira is the same person you think he is. I appreciate the help

Here is what the Biblioteca of Ponta Delgada told me about the passaportes.
They told me this around 2002-2005. It does NOT agree with what they
uploaded to the Internet.

*District archive of Horta*: 1836‑1939; since 1856 they are indexed and
give the towns or parishes

of birth.

*District archive of Angra do Heroismo*: 1775‑1818, 1844‑1845, 1857‑1924.

*District archive of Ponta Delgada*:

Existing: 1875 May‑1883 Oct; 1894 Nov ‑ 1908 Oct; 1910 Jan‑1920 Jan; 1922
Sep‑1939

Dec; 1950 Feb‑1953 Mar. All records before and in the gaps are
missing. Available
only at

library.

You will have to hire a researcher for the Feb 1950- Mar 1953 records. And
you'll need to understand that you will pay the researcher, but s/he may
come up with nothing.

The Azores GenWeb Site is the place to go for help. Kathy Cardoza has maps
of each Island along with the Freguezia names(village), and the church
names. You need to print each and every Island with it's info so that when
your ancestor ends up being from another village or island, you will
recognize the name! Print out the Genealogical Word List also so that you
can start picking out the words.

Joseph, do you live near Monterey CA? I work at the Family History Center

Research Da Costa Furtado De Jesus Oliviera Family Help!

Hi Manoel Cesar Furtado,

We might be 4th Cousins listed in Family Finder, but Antonio da Costa Furtado
was my Great Great Grandfather and Father to Manuel Da Costa Furtado who was
born in 1883, so I don't think it is possible that Antonio Da Costa Vieira is
the same person you think he is. I appreciate the help very much and I am sure
there is a connection somewhere, I am not familiar with any relatives in Brasil
but it could be that either my Great Grandfather Manuel Da Costa Furtado had
siblings that went there.

Hi Jennifer,

We are related according to the Family Finder as 4th cousins!

I think your ancestor Antonio da Costa Furtado also went by Antonio da Costa
Vieira.

Here's what I have found about him:

Antonio da Costa Vieira x Francisca de Jesus – married in Rosário da Lagoa on
23 feb 1881 – CCA #36 (58)

1. He was 27, born in Matriz de Santa Cruz da Lagoa, son of João da Costa, from
Matriz da Lagoa, and Isabel Candida, from Matriz da Ribeira Grande.

Antonio was born on 23 march 1853 in Matriz da Lagoa – CCA #94. Godparent:
Morgado Pedro Jácome Raposo Bicudo Correia, from Matriz de Ponta Delgada.

2. She was 24, born in Rosário da Lagoa, daughter of Manuel de Medeiros Santos
and Maria Ricarda, from Rosário da Lagoa.

Hello,

I recently have been researching my family tree to try and trace my portuguese
family history. My fathers oldest cousin that lives in New Bedford, MA Gilbert
Silva, had started doing a lot of research and went back to Sao Miguel October
2014. I've been able to go back to my grandfathers parents and hoping to go
further. If anyone is interested in helping or know an easier way to search the
books on records, any tips or help will be greatly appreciated. I am trying to
figure out which ship and where my great grandparents specifically came from

Grandfather: Julio Costa Furtado (b. 1925 New Bedford, MA - d. 1973 San Diego,
CA) - Picture Attached of my Grandparents that married January 8, 1946 in New
Bedford, MA

Great Grandfather: Manuel Costa Furtado (b. Sept 16, 1883 Lagoa, Sao Miguel -
d. ) - Picture Attached
Great Grandmother: Rosa De Jesus Oliveira (1891 - ) - Picture Attached

* Looking for Manuel Costa Furtado Rosa De Jesus Oliveira Marriage Record in
Sao Miguel
* Looking for Ship Records of Manuel Costa Furtado and Rosa De Jesus Oliveira,
they settled in New Bedford, MA and not sure if they took in a ship to Boston.

Great Great Grandfather: Antonio Costa Furtado
Great Great Grandmother: Francisca

*Found Baptism Paperwork for Manuel Costa Furtado but cannot translate it
(Attached)

Grandmother: Genevieve Rose Martin (b. 1928 New Bedford, MA - d. 1972 San
Diego, CA) - Picture Attached of my Grandparents that married January 8, 1946
in New Bedford, MA

Great Grandfather: Manuel Rose Martin (b. 1869 Pico - d )
Great Grandmother: Mary Sylvia

Great Great Grandfather: Antone Rose Martin (Pico)
Great Great Grandmother: Mary Ann (Pico)

My DNA Kit is also on Gedmatch.com F345218

Thank you in advance

[AZORES-Genealogy] Translatoin Help - Lagoa, Sao Miguel

2015-05-05 Thread Lee
I finally found the marriage record of Francisco Gomez Xapado's parents
Francisco Gomez Xapado and Francisca Tavares (which the help of his
brother's baptismal record - which gave me a hint of where to look -
Francisca was a native of Lagoa).

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-LG-SANTACRUZ-C-1731-1780/SMG-LG-SANTACRUZ-C-1731-1780_item1/P50.html

For the date I can only see August 173??

I can see that Francisco Gomez/s) was the widower of Maria da Costa (who he
married in 1714 in Rabo de Peixe, so I now have another generation back as
well).

As for Francisca - it looks like she was the daughter of Manoel Veira Luis
and Roza Tavares??

If someone can clarify the date for me and confirm that I have the parents
correct; it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you to all!
