[AZORES-Genealogy] Natural d'uma escrava(o)
Someone asked me this and I am not sure the google translation is correct. Example...Maria natural de Anna d'uma escrava of Jose. Does this really mean Maria illegitimate child of Anna who is a slave of Jose??? Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: São Miguel island
Thank you Julio! That is exactly what I have. Even the note to the ancestors of Manuel Goncalves and Maria de Sousa. That info was sent to me by a genealogist from S. Miguel who consulted those manuscripts. But I have my doubts if this is true. For diferent reasons. One of them being that I never found in Maia a birth of a Manuel, to a Francisco Goncalves and Margarida Cabral, by 1694 they had baptized 3 children and none was a Manuel. My Manuel had a child in 1709, even if Francisco and Margarida had a Manuel in 1695 would make him a parent at 15 years old, not impossible but very unlikely. Also the fact Francisco already had a son Manuel from first marriage makes me even more doubtful. Do you happen to have Manuel Simoes and Margarida Barbosa marriage? I'm looking for a couple, Manuel Goncalves and Maria de Sousa, married somewhere in Sao Miguel island (they baptized a child in Santa Maria in 1709. He is believed to be from Maia. She is from Santa Maria Island, more specifically from Santo Espirito. Since Sao Miguel has a lot of parishes I was wondering when you research if you could keep these people in mind. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Help with marriage please.
I haven't been following this thread closely, however I saw the question about waiting 5 years to marry. I had a couple that had kids for 4 or 5 years before getting married. They were 1st cousins and it took that long for the dispensation to go through. I don't know if that's the case with your couple or not. Thank you. Manoel did I have Joao Camelo Pereira and Barbara Monis' marriage and their daughter, Maria's, early birth correct? Why would they wait five years to marry? Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Arganil Portugal - Marriage Record for Domingos Fernandes & Catherina Dias
Wow, I really like those scans from the mainland. I think it says Domingos Frz, filho (legitimate - might be abbreviated) de Bartolomeu Something (I want to say Silveira, but I really don't think that's right). I think you have the rest right. Yes, the old spelling is the "y." OLD: Fayal, Sylva, etc NEW: Faial, Silva There are some others too. OLD: hum, honze NEW: um, onze (for 1 and 11) OLD: Paxeco NEW: Pacheco OLD: Mello NEW: Melo As you go back in time, you will find older and older spellings. Just pencil them in on your Portuguese Word List.
