 Hello cousin!
what little I have I can gladly share but I have more ancestry than
descendants for that branch of the family tree. It seems we are related
through Manuel Medeiros Grota & Maria Francesca Moura - he is the

of my 2x great grandfather Antonio de Medeiros. I have very little
 info on
that line so maybe between us we can fill in some gaps.

One piece of information I was told when I began my genealogical

Bretanha are related so that has been a huge help. I'll gladly share
 what I
have on them if it will be a help to you. Just let me know!

We solved a recent 100% Portuguese adoptee's search with my theory, so it
just proves it! Her closest match was a 2nd cousin. :-) In addition, the
Excel Spreadsheet clearly demonstrates the predicted relationships, v. the
actual relationships, complete with cmg and seg amounts for those with
known Azorean lines. For the adoptee you are helping, this info should be
useful. Focus more on matches that are not 100% Portuguese, and you will
reduce the impact of endogamy on your search!

Yeah, and I have another adoptee where endogamy is impacting the close
matches. We can't prove all families off of one. We need many people to
test and we need to look to see how endogamy (and how much endogamy)
impacts the various families that have tested thus far. We need more people
to DNA test to figure this all out. Hopefully your theory is correct.

P.S. One ot the tricks to reducing the impact of endogamy in adoption
searches is to focus on the matches that are 1/2 are 1/4 Portuguese
this greatly reduces the impact! :-)

I am VERY excited about this new relationship we have discovered. now
we need to find them!

Cheri,
I am working with a dna guru on this and we have triangulated 10 dna
matches to this couple. The strongest match shares 160 seg on one side,
and a 61 cmg match on the other, along with 8 others. This is a sure
thing. I am attaching a chart for you I have created regarding known

see that endogomy does not impact the results as much as one may think!

Laura,

Just beware because of our endogomy issue (intermarriage), what looks like
an 2rd-3rd cousin may be more like 3rd-4th cousin.

Hello cousin!
what little I have I can gladly share but I have more ancestry than descendants
for that branch of the family tree. It seems we are related through Manuel
Medeiros Grota & Maria Francesca Moura - he is the brother of my 2x great
grandfather Antonio de Medeiros. I have very little info on that line so maybe
between us we can fill in some gaps.

One piece of information I was told when I began my genealogical addiction
about 15 years ago was that all the Medeiros Grota's from Bretanha are related
so that has been a huge help. I'll gladly share what I have on them if it will
be a help to you. Just let me know!

Welcome to the family!

[AZORES-Genealogy] Joao Carvalho b. 11 May 1874 Ajuda Bretanha and Antonia da Conceicao Travassos b. abt 1872 Ajuda Bretanha

2016-04-28 Thread Laura Flanagan
So, my dna results are indicating these folks were my 1st or 2nd great
grandparents! Fantastic lead, but I am having trouble identifying
descendants. Does anyone have this couple in their lines? Descendant
information would be greatly appreciated!

Joao Carvalho b. 11 May 1874 Ajuda Bretanha, son of Francisco Carvalho and
Francisca Thomasia
(maternal grandparents: Manuel Medeiros Grota and Maria Francisca /
paternal grandparents: Manuel Carvalho and Maria Rosa)

married in Ajuda Bretanha on 6 Sep 1897 to

Antonia da Conceicao Travassos, daughter of Luis Travassos b. 26 Feb 1833
Ajuda Bretanha and Francisca de Jesus b. abt 1835.
(maternal grandparents: Joao de Balhao (spelling?) and Maria Jacintha /
paternal grandparents: Manuel Travassos and Maria Joaquina Carvalho)

Joao and Antonia had the following children, all born in Ajuda Bretanha,
(there are likely more born bet 1912 and 1920 that I have not yet found):

Manuel, b. 21 Jun 1898
Maria, b. 15 Sep 1900
Anibal, b. 5 Apr 1902
Cecilia b. 11 Nov 1908, married Luis Arruda in Santa Clara, Ponta Delgada,
on 3 Apr 1955
Luis Carvalho, 14 Mar 1912, married someone in Bretanha on 14 Nov 1953
