[AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading name and date Coelho Sousa marriage

2016-10-26 Thread bsei2816
I agree that the first wife is Luisa and that she died on 12 February.
However, I believe the age of 51 and the parents named in the last post are of
the groom and not his first wife.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Births of Merced County CA 1873-1912

2016-10-26 Thread Rosemarie Capodicci
Hi Mary ,
No luck. No Evangelhos at all so I looked for the mother named Sousa/Souza
and none married to a Jacintho. Darn, was really hoping that I would find
the birth record in the book. Good luck on finding more on this family.
The good thing about this book is that the mother's names are also listed
in the index so I can look for father or mother's names.

2016-10-26 Thread Mary Pimentel Wheeler
Hi Rosemary...I'm curious if you can find info on a male baby born to Jacintho
Evangelho and his wife Mary/Maria Carolina (Sousa). Maria died the day he was
born, and he died at only 4 months old from "convulsions". He was born 16 Nov
1903 in Coarsegold Ca. He is buried in Arbor Vitae cemetery in Madera, and his
given name was not listed - it just said Infant Evangelho, male. Maria is my
mystery woman, I only know she was a Sousa, had a brother Henry (I have lots of
info on him and his descendants)And that she was either born in Boston or
Pico, not much help there! My brick wall is her parents, I cannot find
reference to them anywhere. One of Henry's documents listed his mother's
surname as Costa. Maria and Jacintho are my great grandparents, and they
also had a female child - my grandmother. Her name was Louise Evangelho, born
5 July 1901, also in Corsegold. In any case, If you find any info on the
infant or clubs to the grandparents, I would appreciate it.

You can try Roots Magic 7. It's free for the Essential Version. It's not
what you are used to, but it is easy to use and will import FTW files
without errors. That's important and better than importing a Gedcom file.
Legacy is also easy to use. Just be sure back up your files unto a flash
drive or CD or both!

I found in Rabo de Peixe a second Manuel Pereira Bicho cc Maria da Costa,
Feb 4- 1692; He is filho de Francisco Pereira and Isabel Vieira nats de
Fenais de Luz; She is filha de Pai Nao Sabido and Vitoria Furtado nat de
Rabo de Peixe.

I think it is reasonable to assume this Manuel Pereira Bicho is in the same
family and most likely is the brother of your Antonio Pereira Bicho. This
makes Francisco Pereira and Isabel Vieira the parents of said Antonio
Pereira. If you really want to firm it up more, look for some children, and
that should help solidify the relationships.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Lost husbands

2016-10-26 Thread Susan Schoen
We have a family "myth" that my maternal grandmother's father (Jose Antonio
Caetano Azevedo Mancebo 1846 - 1919) had a family back in Ribeira Seca, Sao
Jorge, but his wife died. He wanted to come to the US, but his children
decided to stay there with family. I don't know how many kids, or how old,
or if it's even true? It had been told to some of my cousins by my
grandmother's youngest sister, Virginia. I haven't scoured the marriage
records yet to see if I can find a previous wife. If I do find a record of
a previous marriage, then I could look through the baptisms for potential
children.

It's interesting that the cousins had heard of this potential other family,
but no one had told them that my grandfather had four brother's & a sister?
Nor that his father was listed as "pai incognito" but the man who was
listed as the godfather in his baptism was listed as the father for his
following siblings. I have heard that illegitimate children are sometimes
rebaptised when the father marries the mother, making them legitimate, but
have found no record of this either. There is no way to know if Jose & his
siblings shared the same father or not unless we get really lucky finding
multiple cousins via DNA.

BTW, I just found out about this earlier this year. No one had told us, but
maybe they assumed it was common knowledge? My mom is almost 92 & she had
never heard of it, & my mom is still as sharp as a tack, she would not
forget something like that. Virginia's daughter, Wanda is still alive & she
had not heard of it. It was the children of Virginia's son Robert who had
heard of it & he died back in 2007. We may never know? Lesson learned: ask
lots of questions while people are still alive! Then still double & triple
check...

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: help finding marriage record rabo de peixe

2016-10-26 Thread Amy Francis
Thanks! I found Antonio Pereira's death entry in 1738 -

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-O-1729-1745/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-O-1729-1745_item1/P66.html

States he was 50 years old, so born around 1688.

I looked for his baptism but could not find it, fenais da luz seems to be
missing the dates I need. I think it jumped from 1686 to 1693?

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Births of Merced County CA 1873-1912

2016-10-26 Thread Cheri Mello
If "mo" is mother, Eric is saying the mother in your post, Mamie Vincent,
mailed his family some postcards about 8 years after the birth of the
child, Mary Madeline Almeida.
