My husband's ancestor was Sebastiao De Resendes Jacome  abt 1666  on Santa 
Maria Island, church of Santa Barbara.  Married Maria da Costa about 1686; 
He Died24 March 1735;

Christened in church of Espírito Santo, Santa Maria

the record was torn, barely readable but I could read were the parents name but 
not child.  Not sure what to call him/her

Yes I have his children starting in 1649 with Maria.  I searched marriages 
trying to find one or two children of theirs thought might have been born 
between 1644 when they married and when the records started up again in 1649.  
Did not find any but then, I also missed Manoel Tavares birth record which you 
sen me.

Yes, technically my Mello line should have been Jacome. I am the 10th
generation to carry Mello. The 11th generation was a Manuel Jacome born in
the 1660s on Santa Maria island. I'm going off the top of my head, as my
computer is being used to run the slides for the conference in Salt Lake,

No, I would not list child of a slave as a child of the owner. That would 
give the wrong idea. Simply make a note that your ancestor owned a slave 
who had a child.
