Your husband can do the mtDNA test. Mitochondria are passed down from a
mother to ALL her children, but only the female children grow up to be moms
to pass it down.

So your husband has is mom's mtDNA and he can take the test to trace his
mother's mother's mother's line (bottom of his pedigree chart).

Now, if you are talking his dad's mom, that's a different case and no, he's
not the right candidate for that line.

I would like to add to that if you have older members in the family be sure
to test them now.  My husband has traced his paternal line with a Y-DNA and
also did FF.  However, there is no living female in his family for her to
do an mtDNA to follow his maternal line.  He had only one sister and she
had 4 sons and is now deceased. My husband is particularly interested in
the mtDNA line of his family and I'm afraid he is out of luck.

Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) had reduced its shipping through Friday, December
15th. I *think* it's $9.95 USD instead of the regular $12.95. U.S.
residents have the return postage paid.

I'm well stocked this week on $10 off Family Finder coupons too. Please, it
you are thinking about it, now may be a good time ($59 sale price (instead
of $89) - $10 off). If you wait until the last week of the sale, I may not
be able to help you find the coupon you need.
