Better to use this translation    has its root in Hebrew, and Solome means

You didn't include Maria's baptism. You sent the Passaportes link twice (oops).

Key words for the baptisms can be found on the Azores GenWeb here:

At the end of that page is a link that will take you to samples where you can
compare your record to the online one a pick out keywords. It follows a certain
format (most of the time). It takes a little doing to get the hang of it, but
you can do it.

Sorry if I confused anyone,

My gf was known as William Cabral here in America, but obvious is actually
Guilherme Cabral do Rego.
I can now understand why it was family talk that he changed his name from Rego
to Cabral for unknown reasons. He or US immigration dropped the Rego

His wife was known as Mary Sally Cabral inAmerica,  but was actually Maria
Salome Cabral
Her baptismal record I think is here Maria  # 3 starts on lower left side?

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Lomba de Maia on Sao Miguel

2018-01-16 Thread Cheri Mello
Maria S,

You need to add the people you tested to the Azores DNA Project on FTDNA.
If you didn't test though Family Tree DNA (FTDNA), you need to go through
their Autosomal Transfer Program and then join the Azores DNA Project.

If you have DNA tested yourself as well, it is not possible for Bill to
match your daughter and not you. That's called a false positive. It's just
common Iberian stock.

The generation thing (such as 4.1 generations) is very misleading for those
of us from endogamous populations. My dad has a cousin (the first time,
she's a 5th cousin 1x removed, but they are cousins multiple ways). A 5C1R
means the common ancestor is 6th and 7th generation back. So that should
be a 6.something estimate from GedMatch, but they report my dad's 5C1R as
3.8 generations back - a great or 2 great grandparent. It's a bit off due
to the intermarriage. You need to use the Chromosome Browser and Longest
Blocks in order tell with better certainty what you are looking at with
your matches on GedMatch.

Bill's DNA seems to be matching people of Sao Jorge ancestry more than Sao
Miguel ancestry. More research for Bill T to do! :)

[AZORES-Genealogy] Cordeiro de Miranda Family

2018-01-16 Thread 'John Raposo' via Azores Genealogy
Dear fellow List Members: As some of you know I have beenresearching the
Miranda family of the Parish of Bretanha in S. Miguel for many years. Thereare
five main branches, one of which is the Cordeiro de Miranda family.
Thatparticular branch is very well represented in the Azorean Diaspora that
settledin Massachusetts and in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. My cousin Licínio
Nunes deMiranda of Fortaleza has created a page on Facebook, Familia Cordeiro
de Miranda, and would welcome the participation ofany Cordeiro de Mirandas,
particularly any descendants of Francisco Cordeiro deMiranda and his wife
Mariana Augusta da Estrela.Regards,

Re: Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] HELP WITH TRANSLATE

2018-01-16 Thread Margaret Vicente
Miguel,
No problem, but there your Maria's birth date of Oct 24 doesn't match this
record.

No. 53 - Maria
Birthdate: 17-Nov-1889
Baptised: 25-Dec-1889
Parents: Jose Cabral, vendeiro (bartender or store owner/goods seller) and
Jacinta da Gloria
Paternal Grandparents: Antonio Cabral e Rosa de Jesus
Mat. GP: Manuel Martins and Margarida Julia
Godfather: Manuel Pedro de Almeida, married, worker

Took a peak at other Maria's for 1888 and 1889 and none have a Oct 24th
birth date.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] HELP WITH TRANSLATE

2018-01-16 Thread Margaret Vicente
Bill,

I think this may be your William's birth record. His name is Guilherme

Birth date: April 25th 1887
First child of this name born to: Jose Cabral to Rego, carvoeiro [this was
a profession and it is a person who sells or makes charcoal] natural of Sao
Vicente Ferreira, and of his wife Julia da Conceicao
Paternal Grandparents: Francisco Cabral do Rego and Maria de Jesus
Maternal Grandparents: Jose Soares e Francisca de Jesus
Godparents: Manuel do Couto, and his wife Guilhermina

To confirm you should be ordering their marriage record.
