[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Birth Record Margin Notes

2018-01-24 Thread bsei2816

Sean,

I found another record that may interest you.

Here is the baptism of Manuel Pacheco de Mello, the father of your Maria
and the groom in the marriage on my last post. Manuel’s age and parents
both fit the marriage record. (#137, bottom right continuing on next page)

Interestingly, the margin note looks like he married in Ribeira Grande to
Ruth Gonçalves da Silva from Ribeirão das Lajes, Estados Unidos do Brazil
(on 15 Jan 1921?). How this Ruth might relate to Clothilde Gonçalves da
Silva that he married in 1899, or what happened to Clothilde I do not know.

Other margin notes show Manuel became widowed (again?) on 16 Nov 1963? and
died in Rabo de Peixe in 1965.

This baptism also shows Manuel is neto paterno de Francisco Pacheco de
Mello and Helena Isabel. These are my GGG-grandparents through their son
Francisco Pacheco de Mello married to Rita de Jesus.

Here is the baptism of my Manuel Pacheco de Mello (#40, bottom left
continuing on right)

He has the exact same name and birthplace as yours and is only 3 months
younger so they were contemporaries in Rabo de Peixe. The two Manuel
Pacheco de Mello baptisms (Nov 1874 and Feb 1875) show them to be first
cousins. Both have Francisco Pacheco de Mello and Helena Isabel as
paternal grandparents; one from their son Francisco (my great-great
grandfather) and one from their son Manuel (your Maria’s grandfather)

I am sorry for the length of this. I hope I kept everything straight.

Francisca's middle name is "Helena de Jesus." She has no last name.

The Brazil list is on Rootsweb, but Rootsweb is down. We do have people who
research Brazil. Hopefully one of them will answer that part of your
question. I know Brazil's records are coming online at FamilySearch.org.

2018-01-24 Thread Sean Andrade
Thanks for the help!

Bill, that marriage record you sent, What is Manuels mothers name? I see
Francisca ___ de Jesus, but can not make out the middle name. I just
started this side of my tree so I don't have much information yet.

If I wanted to search the Brazil records is there somewhere I can look,
something similar to the CCA but in Brazil? Is there also a group like this
for people searching Brazil lines?

My replies are at the bottom? I see all answers come to the top. That's
weird.

I can't remember how intermarried Marie's line is. If it is, it'll fragment
and that is why you see a weaker match. Intermarriage can fragment the
DNA. Cheri

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Ancestry

2018-01-24 Thread Cheri Mello
When someone DNA tests, they sign a paper saying they are willing to be
matched within the FTDNA system. So once a person logs into their match
page, those matches are meant for their eyes and their eyes only (or the
proxy managing the kit). Many people are ignorant of manners, ethics, etc.
They think it's absolutely OK to show something that was meant for them
PERSONALLY to the world. No, that's NOT okay. Same thing as taking a screen
shot of your bank account and publishing it on social media. Why not do
that? We know why.

If you have some ideas for solutions, send them to me and I'll bring them
to the attention of FTDNA.

The screen shot that I show repeatedly of my dad's page shows only 4
people: Me, cousin Nancy, cousin Marie, and cousin Altino. I have emails
from them saying it's OK to show their name and picture. The next person I
do NOT have permission. So hence my cutoff at 4 people. It's enough anyways.

As for the site protecting the information (DNA), only those with the kit
number and password have access to the DNA, same as your online banking. If
the password is shared and people think it's OK to share DNA with the
world, well, then that's not a problem with the DNA site, it's a problem
with the person who shared a password with someone who is completely
ignorant about what is ethically proper to do with someone's DNA. Same
thing as sharing your banking password. If you shared the password with me
and I took a screen shot of your account and posted it on social media,
it's not the bank's problem. Our problem is that we share DNA (unlike bank
accounts) and genealogists don't understand the line between sharing and
violating privacy.

Again, if you have any ideas for FTDNA, let me know.

The maternal grands, Antonio Furtado Rei and Maria de Jesus, are Marie
(Ray) Fraley's ancestors. She DNA tested and should be your match. If she
has a brother, his Y-DNA would come from Antonio Furtado Rei.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Antone F. Lawrence of Sao Miguel Azores

2018-01-24 Thread Cheri Mello
In your post, you sent a link for Family Search only, asking about what it
said for certain column and didn't mention Lillian or needing help with the
baptism, so I didn't go back through the thread looking.

On the baptism Lillian sent, dad is Francisco Furtado from Ponta Garca and
Maria da Luz is from this freguesia (so R. das Tainhas). They were married
in Tainhas.

This priest is where I had to learn how to read the records. He recorded my
immigrant ancestors baptisms. No records were online and we had to go to
the Azores to research. I had a friend with me. The first day, he checked a
couple of my records and said to stack them up. So I asked him every 5 or 6
records or so. The next day, he said I was doing fine, and to leave him
alone! LOL So once you get used to this priest, you can read a lot of
priests because this guy's penmanship is a little tough! LOL

[AZORES-Genealogy] Miranda and Covilha, 1600s, Graciosa

2018-01-24 Thread Cheri Mello
Repost for Kate Kearney, kkearney at nosm.ca

I'm wondering what information you might have on the lineage of Manoel
Tavares Miranda (b. abt 1622) and Catarina Pires da Covilha (b. 1630.
Father is Domingos Pires da Covhila. Mother is Maria de Freitas) both born,
I believe, in Santa Cruz, Ilha Graciosa. I'm an descended from their Manuel
Tavares Miranda. My understanding is that they were descended from
conversos.

Any information would be very helpful!

Thank you!

Kate

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Antone F. Lawrence of Sao Miguel Azores

2018-01-24 Thread Cheri Mello
Row 19, in the column titled "The NAME and complete address of nearest
relative from whence alien came," it says Francisco F. Lawrence, Rib.a
Tainhas, V. Franca. The column isn't asking for parents, it only ask for A
NAME. Just one name. If you want mom's name, you have to go to the Azorean
Passaportes and check for him outbound. Start Aug. 21, 1908 and work your
way back. Yes, he is a laborer.

Everyone is going to River Point in RI. I think that's near West Warwick.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Antone F. Lawrence of Sao Miguel Azores

2018-01-24 Thread brownat68 .
This must be his immigration: Family Search

Row
19. Looks like his father is listed as Francis Furtado, column 11.

It looks like Maria is listed above. Row 15. Whole Motta family came over.

What is his occupation, Column 6, Laborer?

Todd
