[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: CARVALHO - Santa Maria Island - Santo Espirito

2018-09-26 Thread Lisa S
Hi Ricardo,

I see that you posted this in 2014, but if you are still researching this
line I would like to connect with you. I am researching José Carvalho de
Mello in Santo António on São Miguel, as that is where his wife is from,
and that seems to be where he lived. It seems there is more than one José
Carvalho de Mello in this time period (est. 1763-1833), and I have seen
that one of the José Carvalho de Mellos is a natural of the *island of
Santa Maria*. I have seen wives names documented as Anna de Jesus, Anna
Maria, and Maria de Jesus. I THINK that Anna de Jesus and Anna Maria are
the same person, and that Maria de Jesus is a different person.

Please let me know if you would like to connect.

Kind Regards,
Lisa

Hello everyone,

I just found the obituary of Teresa de Teves (widow of Matheus de
Benevides) and the date looks like it is in March to me (instead of June),
6 March 1751. Here is the direct link:

It looks like you are descended through her daughter Teresa de Teves, and I
am descended through her sister Barbara de Teves.

I would love to know the stories of the de Teves that you know... Please
let me know if you would like to collaborate.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Difficulty finding marriage records: SANTO ANTÓNIO além Capelas freguesia on São Miguel, and LAGOA

2018-09-26 Thread Lisa S
Thank you so much for this John !!! I really do appreciate it !!!

Does this mean that we are cousins? :)

FYI, that other couple (*António de Medeiros Maura* and *Joanna Maria) *are
also
related to this couple, I just don't know through whom yet. Most probably
it is though António de Medeiros Maura since he is also a natural of Santo
António. I am guessing that he may be the brother of Joana Maria de
Medeiros. I have a record for an António born 26 October 1753 to Thomé de
Mello and Bárbara de *Viveiros*, and I suspect that this MAY be him, but I
do not have proof of this. Here is that record:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PD-SANTOANTONIO-B-1752-1770/SMG-PD-SANTOANTONIO-B-1752-1770_item1/P12.html

Do you have any thoughts on this?

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Ten Reasons Why You May Be Disappointed With Your DNA Results

2018-09-26 Thread Cheri Mello
Leonard,

That's true as well, about ships from all over stopping in the Azores.
However, the biggest problem is that they don't have enough reference
samples in their database. FTDNA had only 25 samples at one point - and it
was to detect all 9 Azores, all 8 or 9 Cape Verde islands, the 2 Madeira
islands, Brazil and all its regions and Portugal and all its regions. 25
samples can't do that. I don't know how many samples FTDNA currently has in
the current ethnicity estimate. Maybe the next one will have more.

In the meantime, work your matches. That's where the meat of the DNA is.
The ethnicity estimates haven't even made it to side dish status yet.
