Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: My Heritage DNA Transfers Extended Until Sunday, December 16th, 2018

2018-12-04 Thread Marilyn Thompson
I had to try 2 times to get the download to go through. I am sure it has to
do with the number of people transferring data. The second time it only
took about 3 minutes and then it popped up that it was done.

Sure glad it was extended until the 16th of December.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Transferring your DNA toMyHeritageDNAbefore December 1

2018-12-04 Thread 'Susan Murphy' via Azores Genealogy
I found this out also because I had saved some files of downloaded raw dna on
my computer from when I uploaded to Gedmatch. I was trying to get this done
quickly and used those files!

Then when Richard commented that 36 would not work, I double checked what I had
done and thought “ oh no!!”. With the time limit of Dec 1st for free at that
time, I went back to download the raw 37 and made up slightly different names
for the testees. I was surprised when results came back on all the files.
36 and 37 concatenated LOL... however that word is spelled!
I need to go back and delete the duplicates now. but thought you’d like to
know that they worked.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: My Heritage DNA Transfers Extended Until Sunday, December 16th, 2018

2018-12-04 Thread Cheri Mello
I am responding to the My Heritage thread since the deadline is now Dec.
16th.

Gordon S,
Amazon DNA? Did you mean AncestryDNA? Ancestry DNA tests about half the
markers of FTDNA and My Heritage (FTDNA and My Heritage uses the same chip
of about 700,000 markers). So your match results for FTDNA and MyHeritage
would be similar (based on the company database). If you want more matches,
especially distant (3rd, 4th, 5th cousins), you need to test on FTDNA's
chip or My Heritage's chip (both are the same). Both are on sale now.

FTM (Family Tree Maker) and Legacy Family Tree are genealogy computer
programs. That's a different topic for a different thread.

2018-12-04 Thread Gordon soares
I uploaded my Amazon DNA to Family Tree and then to My Heritage. I saw very
little difference. I don’t like MyHeritage program so have deleted it and
continue to use FTM until Legacy has a MAC option or I talk to someone about
partitioning my hard drive.

Sam -

My Heritage Uploads - yes you can upload a second time - if you change the name
of the upload.

What will happen, is that when the 2nd upload appears, it may make a note to
you that the two entries are the same.  You have the opportunity then to
correct the uploads by deleting one of them.  I'm still learning this site, and
how to do uploads correctly.  Yes I've made some interesting mistakes, which
all can be corrected, and the site didn't crash.

Sam, I just did mine this morning and had no problems.   I first downloaded my
DNA from Family Tree DNA. You want to download Build 37 Autosomal. If you did
not use this one then that could be the problem. It is an easy mistake to make
because you can also download Build 36 which will not work.

Cheri;  Thanks for this reminder.  I had tried to do this twice now without
success.  It just kept showing that it was uploading but; would never finish.
Thanks to you reminder, I tried again this morning with success.  I’ve uploaded
all 3 of the kits I manage to My Heritage.  Interestingly, there were no issues
with the two male kits but; when  uploaded my sister’s kit I received a message
that said something like, we are unable to process this type of information at
this time.  We will notify you when we are able to. (Something like that
anyway).  Any ideas on that?

Thanks again,

Just a reminder...You only have a couple of days left before My Heritage starts
charging on Dec. 1st.
Original email below:

For those who have DNA tested, you will want to download your raw data from
whichever company and transfer it over to My Heritage DNA before December 1st.

Each testing company has developed different tools and has different population
samples. Transferring to MyHeritage DNA is currently free. Use of their tools
will be grandfathered in. Beginning December 1st, you will have to pay. No, I
don't know the amount.

Here is what Dick Eastman says about the transfer: https://goo.gl/F5VScW

Here is Roberta Estes' step-by-step guide to downloading and transferring:

Roberta went to My Heritage's conference last week and spent a lot of time at
the DNA lectures. Roberta does have a scientific or technical background, so
she completely understands this stuff. She tries very hard to break the science
down for the us to understand in her blog, DNA-Explained.com. She wrote a long,
detailed article on how DNA matching is done at My Heritage. All companies have
their own similar processes. I encourage everyone to read the article and try
to follow along. You don't need to understand the gory details. The only
understanding is

Marsha S,

You probably have a couple of thousand matches over at AncestryDNA.

However, in the transfer to My Heritage, you will have more matches with
your FTDNA results. Their DNA chip tests almost twice the family markers
that AncestryDNA tests.

Sam -

My Heritage Uploads - yes you can upload a second time - if you change the
name of the upload.

What will happen, is that when the 2nd upload appears, it may make a note
to you that the two entries are the same. You have the opportunity then to
correct the uploads by deleting one of them. I'm still learning this site,
and how to do uploads correctly. Yes I've made some interesting mistakes,
which all can be corrected, and the site didn't crash.

I did go ahead and upload the Ancestry results to My Heritage. Received the
results today, and there are some interesting differences.

There was no problem with the upload process for a 2nd/subsequent set of
results.

This time, followed the instructions for Ancestry instead of FTDNA. Said they
were for me.

Each set of results shows under my profile, and I can select viewing by either
one of them.

FTDNA

Family Finder 1,066 matches

Ancestry ? matches (have never found the information on the
site)

My Heritage uploads from

FTDNA 2,927 matches, 12 ethnicities

Ancestry 1,876 matches, 10 ethnicities
