[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Buy summer flight now, or wait

2013-02-09 Thread Ed
Depends on what date, if it towards end of June, my recommendation would be
to buy. If it is towards the beginning or middle of the month, then you
can wait.

Due to the power outages in Fall River, I don't have access to my system,
but you can send me an email to my gmail account (edwardmel...@gmail.com).
let me know the dates, and I can give you a better opinion of the
situation.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help - SATA in US

2013-02-09 Thread Ed
Isabella-

Latest update I hear is that SATA is leaving tomorrow, February 10 at
12:30PM, and that all passengers, need to be at the airport 3 hours prior.

Since you are on US Air, you should be protected, in case you can't make
the flight, as SATA has an interline agreement with US Air.

Any problems, just contact the 1-508-677-0555, as they keep the information
up to date.

[AZORES-Genealogy] ATMs in the Azores

2013-02-26 Thread Ed
I did a quick video, on how easy it is to use the ATM, in the Azores. ATM's are
the best way to get euros in my opinion. Second would be going to the local
banks.

Try the Portuguese white pages. http://www.pbi.pai.pt/

Then just enter the persons name in the "Procuro" field, and the town
or island they are from in the "em" field. From there the results
should show., and just click telephone to show the number.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Recent trip to the Azores

2008-10-02 Thread Ed Silveira

Hi all,

My wife Kathy and I recently returned from our trip to Terceira, Sao
Miguel, and Faial. First I want to thank all of you who responded to
my request for sights to see while there. Rather than try to respond
individually I am providing a link to my blog (no advertisements) that
describes what we did and what we saw.

It begins here, and goes for about 8 pages.

http://edjoseph.blogspot.com/2008/09/terceira-warm-and-wonderful.html

After returning to Lisboa we headed to the Algarve, Seville and
Gibraltar. They don't compare to the Azores in my opinion. We have
never met so many warm, generous people in our travels and the
memories will last a lifetime.

Thanks again,

Ed & Kathy Silveira

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Recent trip to the Azores

2008-10-03 Thread Ed Silveira

Hello Maria,

I'm glad to hear that we were not the only ones confused by the
airport, you brought a smile.

Thank you for the nice comments. When traveling I keep a journal and
thought there was no better way to share it with our families (both
born and yet to be born) that are scattered around the country than to
create a blog. I certainly wish my parents and grandparents had been
able to pass along their thoughts and feelings about their
experiences.

We are retired and live in Virginia (some of the older posts in the
blog get into more detail than I'm sure your interested in), a little
northwest of Richmond. I am from Rhode Island, my wife Connecticut.

I can't say enough how lovely, helpful, and friendly the people we met
in the Azores were. A lot like the people on this group (I've read it
religiously for years), like Cheri, always quick to offer a kind word,
or help where they could.

Best wishes,

Ed

2008-10-29 Thread Ed & Betty
A friend of mine named Isidore Machado nickname is
Janela from Beira, Sao Jorge. Settled near Sacramento, CA. Isidore lived in
Lemoore. A few years back I went to that village. Owner of the Australia
Hotel was from Beira. He knew the people nicknamed Janela were from there.
Thanks, picoeddie.

Hi Yolanda,
Do you live in Beira?
I went to Beira, Sao Jorge this summer and took pictures of the town and church
for my Mom because my ggrandfather Jose Pereira was from there as was my other
ggrandfather Jose Victorino Bettincourt. I haven't found their baptismal
records yet but anxiously wait for the Velas records to come on line.
I found Beira to be a beautiful village and the people very gracious. Should I
post some pictures?
Best regards,
Nancy
