[AZORES-Genealogy] Manuel Marciano, Sao Jorge Island, Azores

I am interested in researching Manuel Marciano born in Terceira Island, Azores.
However he and his wife and family were from Sao Jorge Island.

Sorry I have no date yet but I think Manuel could have been born around middle
to late 1700s - more likely
the late 1700s. Does anyone have him or members of his family on their family

Hi Edgar,

Do you mind if I tune in at this stage? In your ANP Gomes book. A Ilha da

In an old letter I read that Augustine was from Flores and Faial.

  Al,

The postion of Cardinal is not an integral part of the theological structure
of the Catholic Church, but largely an honorific distinction. Since the 1200s
they have been appointed from outside

Rome, but assigned to a church in Rome. I'd guess that the uncle had retired
from that position back to his home.

I have a copy of the ANP Gomes book , A Ilha das Flores: da redescoberta a
actualidade . It lists the priests who served in each parish in Flores,as well
as those assigned to other

functions. With your fathers name and town of residence at the time, maybe
we can track him down.

Possibly his passport returniung to the US would list the Uncles name.

  Joy,

Nobres de Graça is a term or title given to a class of the nobility. The
King and Princes were entitled Royal Highness. The Dukes and Archdukes His
Highness with all the rest of the nobility having the title of Your
Grace/Sua Graça.

Trust this might be of some help.

  Cheers,

  Margaret

On a geanealogy chart, my great great grandfather from Faial, Azores has
Nobres de Graca after his name.
I have understood it to mean Nobleman of favour.
Can anyone explain the useage of this phrase and how it was bestowed upon a
person?
Thanks,
Joy

[AZORES-Genealogy] Silveira De Silva

2010-09-19 Thread Joy Hughes
Does anyone have Agostinho Silveira on their family tree?

I do not know his birthdate but think he was born in 1780s to 1800s.

He became a Catholic Priest in Horta, Faial but left Faial possibly 1817.

Agostinho died 1874.

Rosa Joaquina Silveira who married Francisco Joaquina may have been a relative,
and may
have been a sister.

I would love to know his birthdate and parents but seem blocked at a brick wall.

Can anyone help me?

Joy

[AZORES-Genealogy] Rosa Alcantara e Silveira

2010-09-15 Thread Joy Hughes
I am looking for information such as birth, death or marriage dates of Rosa
Alcantara e Silveira. She would have been alive in 1818 most likely in her
twenties- forties, and living on Faial, Azores. She was married to Francisco
Joaquina.
