[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Trying to track down information on my paternal grandfather
Hi Claire, Neil Teixeira here. You need to ID his correct name and village on Faial Island. I would first get a copy of his marriage record from which-ever Catholic Church he was married in. The Priest would have wanted the "exact" village he was born at & baptized in which exact Church. If the information you seek is not there, I would get a copy of his "Petition to become Naturalization Citizen" papers from the County he lived in. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Portuguese Citizenship
Hello Dominick. Neil Teixeira here from the San Francisco Bay Area. Your living Father has the right to obtain his Portuguese Dual Citizenship (PC) from either one of his Portuguese born parents. Its called the "Attribution" process. There is no language test in this process. The Portuguese born parent(s) do not need to be alive. But your Father does. If your Father passes away prior to obtaining his PC from his parent(s).then the chain link is forever broken. And you and your children will not be able to obtain your PC thru the attribution process. The biggest and hardest hurdle is getting all the correct (Officially Stamped) government/Church documents. They DO NOT accept copies. You will apply at the Portuguese Consulate that serves your State. To begin the process, you need the following "stamped" documents: Grandfathers or Grandmothers Portuguese birth record, Grandparents marriage record, your USA birth certificate, your marriage record, etcAs far as the name change. If they did it thru a local County court, then its easy to get a copy of that legal document. If not? Get a official copy of their passport/ship log when they exit the Azores, which will show their original name. Then your going to have to prove that they changed it here in the USA thru a Entry Port ship document, Citizenship application or marriage document...or something..to confirm they are one and the same person(s). You do all this. Fill out the PC application at or thru the mail at your Portuguese Consulate, pay the fees, submit all the documents. Wait for 8 weeks to get word from Lisbon, to see if they have approved your packet of documents. Once your Father is granted his PC. Its real easy/much smoother for you and your children to get it. Its a wonderful journey. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Portuguese Citizenship
Hi Maryann. Neil Teixeira here. I and my siblings obtained our Portuguese Citizenship (PC) 5 years ago, thru the *"attribution"* process, based on the fact that our Grandfather was born in the Acores (Sao Miguel-Sao Jose) Our USA born Father had to obtain his Portuguese Citizenship first-then we all got PC from him. Then our children got their PC from us. So the daisy chain PC can continue in our family. The whole PC process has brought our family's closer, resulting in a 6 person-2 week-1250 mile VW bus tour of mainland Portugal last October...all ending up with 3 nights on Sao Miguel Island. If you can obtain your Portuguese Citizenship? I advise everyone to try to get it, before they change the *"attribution"* rules. Obrigado, Neil Teixeira (Sao Jose-Nordeste-Ginetes) On Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 9:45:16 AM UTC-7, Maryann Santos wrote: > > I just began the application process for Portuguese citizenship for > grandchildren of Portuguese nationals. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Searching Soares/Menezes on San Miguel Island in late 1800's
If any of the Sao Miguel born children (Maria 12, Antonio 10, Maria 8, Maria 1) were eventually married in the Catholic Church in the USA? *The location-the village *and confirmation of their Baptism (s) should have been recorded in the (boiler plate) marriage record book by the Priest. Priest were to confirm by letter that the bride & groom had indeed-been baptisied. That's how I discovered my family's (long lost) village on Sao Miguel island. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Joao Vas Teixeira death record
Thanks JR, Shortening his name by just one letter is silly, but it seems to be the pattern in Sao Jorge Church. I looked in the obits and never found any other family members-including his wife Fransisca Manuel. I think she must have died somewhere else. I was hoping this obit for Joao Vaz Teixeira was going to reveal his age at death, so I am not sure how old he is. Thanks again. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Oakland Family History Center
Pam, Oakland FHL has one or two, manual (16mm) readers that magnify (different lens ) the images-larger. This is most helpful if the records are faded or hard to make out. (Don't bother useing their regular/normal 16 mm readers.) The Pro Scanner is great if you already know exactly, where your item is-on the reel but is too slow. I only use the Pro Scanner for print reasons due faded records. You could also puts your films on, one of the three other (film) printing/copying machines, view your films on that machine-then print as needed..as you go. These 3 film copy machines are against the wall-near the Pro Scanner table. And they are not used very much. Neil T. [AZORES-Genealogy] Tome Nogueira & Catharina Aveiro Luis Fonseca
I believe this (1600 era) couple lived in Povoacao and Nordeste on Sao Miguel Island. I am trying to tie/connect this Tome Nogueira to a Estevao Nogueira of Maderia Island. If anyone has information on this couple, please let me know. -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Manuel Teixeira and Emilia Rosa de Medeiros - Ponta Delagda
Hello Cousin Lee, Merry Christmas. This Neil Teixeira in California. Its a small world. Your Felicidade Conc Teixeira is the sister of my Jose Teixeira b. 18 Oct, 1880 in Ague Retorta. This 1880 Jose Teixeira immigrated to and stayed in California and worked as a ship painter. I've been working on our Teixeira line-forever-till the records ran out. The paternal male line tree.travels something like this: Bernardo Teixeira Nogueira & Victoria Maria in Agua Retorta, then Jose Teixeira Nogueira b 1766 & Benedita Jesus Pimental in NordestinhoAntonio Teixeira Pimental b. 1722 & Quiteria Borges in Nordeste.Manuel Teixeira Nogueira b 1682 & Anna Pimental in NordesteManual Nogueira b 1655 & Anna Correa (Carrero) in NordesteManual Alves Nogueira & Anna Teixeira in NordesteBelchior Alves Nogueira & Maria Correia in Nordeste. The vital records then run out and are very hard to read. I've only found bits a pieces (in Nordeste) of the Nogueira and Teixeira lines. I believe (cannot prove it) on the Nogueira line we are connected to a Tome Nogueira & Catharina Aveiro Luis Fonseca. And on the Teixeira lineto Manuel Vas Fazenda & Ines Viegasthen to Joam Vas Teixeira...all of Nordeste..then (hopefully) to Tristao Vas Teixeira of Maderia Island. This is as far as I have gotten, I just cannot find the key document to tie us to either Madeira Island or the mainland. I hope this sheds some light on our trail. Happy New Year to everyone. Neil T.
