[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Name patterns in genealogy programs
Hi Sam, I use Family Tree Maker and about a year ago decided to change out all the de/da/do's in my program. Right now I can't recall how I did it (then), but you can go to the person (by clicking the name and making it blue in the center of the screen OR by going to the left side of FTM and find your person alphabetically under the surnames that begin with de/da/do). Now, look over to the right and see the person's name and click it in the box. Click on the 'edit' pencil and up pops a box with three boxes in it (Given Name, Surname and Suffix). I then put the de/da/do at the end of the 'Given Name' box and erase it in the 'surname' box. Then click 'OK.' Hope this is clear. It isn't as hard as my ramblings make it appear. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help with parents' names, Rabo de Peixe, Sao Miguel
Hi Cheri and JR, Thanks for the comments. Yes, I am happy to have these records and we are lucky that they are this clear from the early 1600s. JR thanks for adding the padrinhos for me. Those names are familiar to me in my other lines/families in this area, especially Joao Lopes. Hi Cheri, Thanks for the response. I would have never picked up on Calhetas in the record, yet when looking at it now, it's quite clear. I went into Tombo quickly and they don't start records in Calhetas until 1837, way after I need those records. The record I was working on is 1608. JR, you are so very kind to do all this work finding these folks. I had been through these records, but had not found them (as I was NOT looking for this couple!). I am off for a couple of weeks (camping in Yosemite!!), leaving shortly. I will be getting back into this when I get home. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Marriage record of Manuel (Faria) Cabral & Maria de Oliveira in Rabo de Peixe, Ribeira Grande, São Miguel
Hi JR and John Reposo & others too, It’s time to revisit Manuel Cabral & Maria de Oliveira, the mentioned parents of Joseph de Faria & Barbara Tavares, m. 20 Feb 1737. I found NO births with with Cabral/deOliveira names on them. You indicated that they were actually Manuel Cabral and Maria Farya, which I had also found and wrote seven children with them as parents (all born in Rabo de Peixe). Maria: bpt. 29 Sep 1703 (lists dad as Manuel Cabral Velho). If I have the same Maria Cabral, she was married to Tome Alvares, 19 Feb 1726, and her parents are listed as Manuel Cabral pedreiro & Maria de Oliveira. Twins: Manoel and Antonia: b.20 Feb 1705 Antonia: b.24 Feb 1707. Her marriage shows Manuel Cabral manuho (?) & Maria de Faria as her parents, m.20 May 1709. Felipa: b. 20 May 1709 Joseph: b. 4 May 1712. Parents are Manuel Cabral Maniche (?) & Maria de Faria. If this is my Joseph, he was 25 years old when he got married and his parents listed at his wedding are Manuel Cabral & Maria de Oliveira. Joachim: b.5 Sep 1714. Parents listed as Manuel Cabral Vehlo de Teve & Maria de Faria on birth record! Here is the marriage of Manuel Cabral de Teve & Maria de Farya, 27 Dec 1703: http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-C-1700-1759/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-C-1700-1759_item1/P15.html This is a long and convoluted email. But how do we say with certainty that these parents are the same people? Is there another piece of paper in this long paper trail that says they they are the same people? What I find so very interesting is that it states in his death record that he is the spouse of Maria de Oliveira (not Faria) at such a late period in his life. At this point I have not found a de Oliveira in Maria de Farya’s parents names. I have not gone further back on that side. Why the confusion with the priest’s writing? Thanks for pondering this. I sure wish I could read Portuguese and possibly get more out of these records. John, this is exciting. Thank you fro replying. I am on my way out of the house for a couple of days and will get back to you. I had found this Manoel and Maria and their children and followed the line, but I finally decided it wasn't them for a couple of reason. I will get my thoughts together and get back to you. Speaking about Madeira, some of children or grandchildren went to Madeira. Again, thanks for the help. [AZORES-Genealogy] Marriage record of Manuel (Faria) Cabral & Maria de Oliveira in Rabo de Peixe, Ribeira Grande, São Miguel
Hello fellow sleuths, I am searching for the marriage record of Manuel (Faria) Cabral & Maria de Oliveira in Rabo de Peixe, Ribeira Grande, São Miguel. Here they are mentioned in Joseph de Faria & Barbara Tavares’ marriage on 20 Feb 1737 (Manuel Faria & Maria de Oliveira are the parents of Joseph de Faria) — left side. http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-C-1700-1759/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-C-1700-1759_item1/P200.html Well, I’ve poured through the marriage records for Rabo de Peixe and can’t find them there or in many of the surrounding parishes (that does not mean that the record is not there). Could something else be written in this document that might lead me to another parish? I also have them as a couple in Rabo de Peixe in their daughter, Maria’s marriage to Tome Alvarez in Rabo de Peixie, 19 Feb 1726 right (right side). http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-C-1700-1759/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-C-1700-1759_item1/P117.html I have searched for the births of these children, Joseph de Faria and Maria Cabral, and have not found them in Rabo de Peixe or surrounding parishes. I found Manuel Cabral’s death record in Rabo de Peixe: 18 Sep 1755; +/- 70 yrs old (right side) http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-O-1745-1758/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-O-1745-1758_item1/P89.html Yes, the above leads me to a birth of a Manuel (11 Dec 1680), but I cannot go there without any other proof. The help I would like after looking at these records, are there any other clues for finding a marriage record of Manuel Cabral and Maria de Oliveira AND/OR are there any other clues where I might find the births of their two children, Joseph de Maria and Maria Cabral. Thank you so much, in advance, for looking at these records. Thea Norum -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Azores Genealogy" group. I received the book today, ordered it February 17. I thought it was never going to come. What a surprise when the postman rang my doorbell today. The one thing I find difficult is that the priests' writing in MY church books are not this neat. It's fun to see how many abbreviations can be made for a Manuel!!
