Elizabeth, I can relate to what you wrote.  I, too, have the information on my
direct lines back to the beginning of the records and a little further back.  I
have not done research on the "peripheral" lines, as I call the cousins, aunts,
uncles, etc.  However, by continuing to monitor the list, I have made
connections with distant cousins and have shared my info. and they have shared
their info.   So.I continue to add to my files and have even found that
some of us are related more closely than I would ever have thought.

The "books" as I call them, were intended to give my children and grandchildren
a view of my journey "Back to the beginning," as I have called my journey back
to my beginnings.  I encourage you to continue to help others as you were
helped.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Leaving the List

2012-06-01 Thread emc
I have completed my Mom and Dad's genealogy WY back, have put together a
hard bound book for each of my children and my brother and now.I QUIT
I am sure I could continue by filling in the families of "cousins" but I'm
tired.

However, I must say I could NOT have done it without the help of "fellow
listers like yourselves", but...ESPECIALLY Joe RAPOSO.He contributed
greatly to my geneatlogy research even to the point that the info he gave me on
my mother's family "connected" to the info I already had on my Dad's and now I
have been able to complete both lines.

Thanks again to all who have helped in the past...I will never forget you and
to Joe RAPOSO..an especially
 B-I-G  "THANK YOU.

I will sign off now and wish all of you success in your search.

Sincerely,

I just checked my copy which I bought directly from Edna. There is nothing
indicating that it was copyrighted. Although ethical issues about distributing
unauthorized versions are valid, there is another point of view: mass producing
Edna's massive project will perpetuate her memory, at least until a better
translation becomes available, especially among all those non-Portuguese
reading researchers of Micaelense genealogy.

Book 4 of Saudades Da Terra  was translated by Edna Phillips kern and published
in 2001. I purchased a copy from her and had this email and address for her in
the cover of the book nerka...@aol.com, 12760 Perris Blvd A-8, Moreno Valley,
CA 92553-2339. I think I paid around $35.

I am not sure if any CD copies are authorized as the book was published in
paper cover. I would be careful of distributing any burned copies of a CD.  I
think translating this would be considered a intellectual work and thus
protected under copyright laws. Even if not how would you feel if someone took
the genealogy work you did and distributed it freely?

Yes, one that I know of, but the only way to get a copy is a used copy.   I
can't remember her name, but she translated Livro Quarto of Das Saudades da
Terra by Gaspar Frutuoso.  It's about the leading families in the early days of
the Azores. Mostly Sao Miguel and Santa Maria...little on the other islands.
Frutuoso, I believed died in the late 1500's.  I know several people on the
list have the book.  I gave my copy to the Family History Library in Oakland.

Celeste/John:

I have been trying to piece together the below information and I am confused
(not unusual)...:-(

>Here is what I have:

1. António de Andrade married "Ana Clara do Nascimento", daughter of Jacinto
Inácio de Almeida, or do Rego, and his second wife, Jacinta Miquelina, or
Cândida de Brito (m. Matriz de Ponta Delgada, on 30.7.1806) on 26 Sept 1831.

Is this Ana Clara the same person as Ancestors of "CLARA do Nascimento"
The reason for the confusion is they have different parents...oram I
reading it incorrectly  Her father is listed as Goncalo Rego and her
mother???

Tough to get old:-(

TIA,

Elizabeth

In looking through my files, the first "Almeida" name was attached to my
grandmother, Margarida-Joaquina ALMEIDA-ANDRADE and siblingsIll have to go
back to the actual baptism records to see if I can find anything else.

>Manuel was married to Maria da Gloria from Faja de Baixo. They had four

side.

Don't find any connection, as yet

The only Rodriques I find is Manuel died 2 Jan 1870 who married
Ignacia-Francisca de Mello 28 Apr 1793...

s/o Manuel Rodriques de Pimental and Rosa de Jesus-Bulhao
Rosa's parents were Pascal Leitre-Dutra and Catarina Bulhao

>Maybe someone may pick up something from this info and help us out.

That's what I am hoping:-)

There is a new e-mail virus with  subject  line  of “Here you have”.
It has an attachment that looks like a PDF.  DO NOT OPEN the PDF.  It
is not a PDF.  If opened, it launches a Windows script that attacks
your contact list and then starts attacking your PC.

Hi Matt:

>I've traced my da Ponte line back to my 6th great-grandfather Domingos
da Ponte, born in Povoação (N.S. Mãe de Deus) in November 1726, son of
Martinho da Ponte and Suzana de Medeiros.  Any of these names sound
familiar?

While I don't have any info (yet) in my databasein the 1700's, I DO have quite
a few Da-Ponte's in Maia in the 1800's.  I have just gotten more info on the
family that will probably take it back further butunfortunately, at the
moment I have it "packed up" to take with me next week when I go to Florida for
the winter...I live in Ohio and I HATE cold weather:-(

Anyway, a soon as I get "unpacked" I will check it out and let you know if we
DO, in fact, have a connection...:-)

In the meantime.have a great day.:-)
