Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Difference between Portuguese Linguica and Hawaiian Linguica

E,

Here's an article on the taste differences of Hawaiian linguica type
sausages
http://tastyislandhawaii.com/2007/05/13/the-great-portuguese-sausage-shootout/

I'm working on a family project for the granddaughter of Frank Redondo,
founder in 1949 of the Redondo Brand. It has been sold to a large Japanese
company that continues production under that name.

Here is an article about the taste off between Fernandes Vs Barcelos.
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/675793

It seems some of the Hawaiian brands use some beef in theirs.

My opinion is that producers use pork, spice and smoke in different
amounts, so the there are more differences in between different makers,
than between regions. The size of the grind is a factor too.

Here in California, I expect it to be large chunks of pork shoulder,
garlic, paprika, vinegar, lightly smoke cured. I rate Goulart's regular the
best. Silva's , Barcelos, and Fernandes to be avoided for lack of flavor.

different and, if so, how...is it spicer, hotter, milder, the same?? I

Do you mean, Santos or Coast sausage owned by the Gonsalves family? Or
maybe Moniz, that's just across the San Leandro border.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Difference between Portuguese Linguica and Hawaiian Linguica

2013-10-22 Thread luiznoia .
I don't think there's any chance of getting a recipe for the Santos, but a
news article from 1999 stated this:

a good recipe from the old country. Pia's original recipe is used. The
linguisa and morcella have never contained preservatives and are made daily
from fresh corn- fed pork.

 The linguisa-making technique is the same as his great-grandmother's;

the pork is cut, ground and marinated before being stuffed into natural
casings and smoked with oak for 12 hours in two 8-foot- by-15-foot smokers.

As I remember it, medium ground red pepper, garlic, red wine vinegar were
the main flavorings.

Seems to me some other manufacturers use black pepper, cinnamon,
allspice, oregano, sugar, red or white wine.

It doesn't seem you say my replies to your posting. I didn't see them in my

 Sorry for any confusion!!

father) married to Ana de Sá Mendonça (is that supposed to be São
Mendonça?) and Ana's parrents were Estevão de Sá Mendonça (may have gone by
Jose) (b.about 1865) and Mariana Joaquim (b. about 1855). Lived with
Constantino and Ana after she was widowed. They lived in New Bedford. I
know that Constantino came from Flores, but I am not sure about the
Mendonças and Joaquims. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

 Muito obrgiado!

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Baptismal Record Interpretation of Ursula Joaquina -Nossa Senhora do Rosario, Lajes de Flores, Flores

2010-07-10 Thread luiznoia
David,

Here is how the Familias da Ilha das Flores lists this

Francisco Pimentel Bajouja c.c. Maria Rodrigues ( tambem conhecida por
Maria Pimentel, falaceu 1795.12.11, 56 A),
moradores na Vila de Baixo e Ribeira Seca, tiveram: Ana n. 1758.03.24;
Quiteria, n. 1761.09.25; Antonio, n.1764.06.16; Jose, n. 1768.03.07;
Sebastiao,n. 1770.01.19; Manuel,n. 1773.10.02; Isabel,n. 1778.02.23

That confirms the parents of the Izabel Maria baptism record

I believe I found the baptismal record for Izabel (the mother of Ursula
Joaquina). It states her parents as Francisco Pel Bajoujo (i think that is
what is says but not sure again. It is more clear than the previous record i
posted for the baptismal record of Ursula Joaquina), and Maria Roiz. It is
from February 23, 1778, Nossa Senhora do Rosario, Lajes de Flores, Flores. I
also found five other siblings of Izabel with the same parents, and the same
Bajoujo* name appears in each of them. I am attaching the baptismal record
for Isabel as well as her sister's, which has different handwriting to show
 the Bajoujo* name.

Any other suggestions would be helpful.

 Thanks,

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Amelia Candida Enos

2010-01-21 Thread luiznoia
Marek,

In Flores, the Inacio surname is found in Santa Cruz. I've looked for
her there without luck. She would likely be listed as Emilia Candida
with a suffix like de jesus , or de Conceicao, etc.

In looking for Joseph, the closest surname in Flores is Brito. I've
only found in so far in Santa Cruz on a marriage record from 1767,
where Caetano Gomes de Brito and Anna de Freitas de Heira are shown
as grandparents on a marriage record.

You could try combing through the CCA site baptisms for Santa Cruz
looking for Emilia Candida around 1844.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Help

2008-10-19 Thread luiznoia

Charlotte,

The Azores government maintains a website with online documents,
including passports out of the Azores, birth, death, and marriage
records. You will see it referred to as the CCA or Centro de
Conhecimento dos Acores. here is the link.

http://pg.azores.gov.pt/drac/cca/ig/

In the passportes section, in Ponta Delgada, for years 1875-1883 on
page # 0066 on line 365, I found

Jose Tavares Ferreiraon the right side it shows Maria Augusta. It
looks like him.

here is the link to that page:

http://pg.azores.gov.pt/drac/cca/biblioteca_digital/PPDL1875-1883/PPDL1875-1883_item1/P67.html

Let me know if it doesn't come up.
