RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Amelia Candida Enos

2010-01-20 Thread nancy jean baptiste

Hi Al and Marek,

I also have Enos family. This name has been very mysterious but very important
to my family. I still haven't discovered why though.

My Ggrandfather, Joseph Victorino, came from Sao Jorge in the late 1880's to
New Bedford. In the 1900 census he used the name Joseph Enos, his marriage
papers have 2 different names listed on the civil and parish records.one
gives his father as Thomazo Veira and the other says Thomazo Oliveira.he
never used either of those names. In the 1910 census he had changed his named
to Victorino..the odd part is that my ggrandmother, Francisca Rosa de Lemos
always gave her name as Frances Enos and they named my grandmother, Clara Enos
Victorino..so it was an important name to them but I have no idea why! To
further confuse the issue my Mom said that the story went that when he came
over the immigration people changed his name from Jose Bettencourt to Jose
Victorino..I've looked for the name in the Sao Jorge records...Enos that is
and for any man named Thomazo married to an Ana Joaquina.but have found
nothing.

Regards,

Nancy Jean Baptista

Hi, I have tried to research Enos in the Azores with no luck. I was told that
Enos was not the correct spelling and that it could be spelled several
different ways - Inacio, Ignacio, Eanes, Eanas- I was given 8 or 9 variations
most of which I can't remember. I had that information in my cmputer at one
time but lost it to a virus that hit my computer several years ago. My Enos
was from Pico.

Does anyone have any info on Amelia Candida Enos?? She was born about 1844
most likely in Flores. She married Joseph Francis Brio, where at unknown. They
ended-up in Yreka, Siskiyou county, Calif where Amelia died in 1915. Any info
would be greatly appreciated.

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Amelia Candida Enos

2010-01-20 Thread Jacki G.
I don't know if this will be of any help to any of you looking for Enos' but
back in the late 1920's through 1950's or so Bay Point, Ca (Contra Costa
County) was known as Enes Tract. Most of the people in that area were from
the Azores. My mother was born there. She is a Medeiros.

The Enes' built most of the homes there, which is why it was called that. I
don't know all of their names but there was Christopher (my brother's
godfather), Albert and Bernard. I know the name is spelled a little
different but that happens sometimes. There is a street there in Bay Point
named Enes Street. There were a number of other portuguese families there
also. The one's I can remember are: Evora, Dutra, Medeiros, Mendonsa,
Pereira, Alvernaz, Azevedo and of course Enes. It was a small community made
up of a few streets with houses and a number of large ranches. The last
ranch to be sold to make way for new housing was the Alvernaz ranch which
was sold about 8 or 9 years ago and became the San Marcos housing tract
adjacent to highway 4.

Like I said, I don't know if this info is helpful at all but I thought I
would throw it out there just in case.

Marek,

I found an 1880 census for Hawkinsville, Siskeyou County, CA listing Joseph
Francis Brio age 45, occupation miner, his wife Amelia F. Brio age 40,
homemaker, both born in Portugal, their parents born Portugal, their children,
Mary F age 13, Joseph F 11, Clara F 10, Johanna F 7, Manuel F 5 and Antone F 2.
Could not find any immigration record. Hope this helps.
