[AZORES-Genealogy] Duarte and Dutra

2017-02-13 Thread Sme
Greetings everyone. I'm tracing the family lines for a cousin of mine. In
one of the records I came across, the ancestor's father's surname was
Antonio Duarte and the mother was Barbara Josefa. When I was looking for
the marriage I found an Antonio Dutra married to Barbara Josefa.

Is this name interchangeable? I have not come across any other Duarte
married to a Barb. Josefa.

Thanks.
Suzanne

It depends. Can you provide the original source to Antonio Duarte and
Barbara Josefa and the link to the marriage of Antonio Dutra and Barbara
Josepha? Then I can clarify my "it depends" statement.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Duarte and Dutra

2017-02-20 Thread Cheri Mello
I only know of Dutra as a name from Josse van Huerter. He was Flemish, if
memory serves me. In my research, I've never seen a priest mistake my
Dutras for Duartes. Duarte is a separate, distinct name. That doesn't mean
that an immigrant didn't change it or a priest may have erred.
