[AZORES-Genealogy] FAIAL RODRIGUES ALEMÃO and PEREIRA CHAVES

2019-06-09 Thread Rita Soares
I am looking for ancestors of Manuel Rodrigues Alemão, from Capelo, Faial,
around 1660. His descendents then lived in Castelo Branco, Faial, and their
surname evolved to Pereira Chaves. They came to the portuguese continent
around 1750, to settle in Alentejo, where my paternal family comes from to
this day. Any help will be appreciated. I have a FTDNA test for me and my
parents as well.

Thank you! Obrigada!
Rita Soares

Kristie, in later records there is a baptismal date and a birth (naceu)
date. When you get to the older records it's just a baptismal date.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Faial and Pico Azores

2018-05-29 Thread Cheri Mello
Kristie,
No, a birth date is the day the baby was born. The baptism date is the day
the baby was baptized into the Catholic Church. Some babies are born and
baptized the same day. Most are baptized days to a couple of weeks after
they are born.

The 3rd and 2nd time periods give both birth and baptism dates. The earlier
you go into the 1st time period, the more likely you are to see just the
baptism date.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Faial and Pico Azores

2018-05-27 Thread Judy Thompson
There is what you might call a neighborhood in Lajes on Pico called
Almagreira. It is not a separate parish. A couple of other neighborhoods
in Lajes are Rua Nova and Rua do Meio. At least sometimes these
neighborhoods show up on birth records. Perhaps someone else knows the
Portuguese name for a neighborhood. So I'd look in Lajes records to see if
you can find them. I have relatives from all 3 of these neighborhoods and
3 of my grandparents also died in Kings County.

The only parish named Almagreira (as far as I am aware) is on Santa Maria
island and not Pico.

Your ancestors seem to be from Pico. Although no parish called Almagreira
exists on Pico, there is a place in the parish of Lajes do Pico called
Almagreira. You can see Almagreira listed here as part of Lajes do Pico

Records from that Almagreira will be included in Lajes do Pico records.

There is no strong match for the baptism I submitted for Manuel so I can’t
say that is the Manuel that married Laureanna. The match to the Laureana
baptism I sent is much stronger and likely is your great grandmother. Her
parents names match closely (Manuel Francisco da Rosa = Manuel Rose; and
Maria Luisa, daughter of Jose de Brum = Maria de Brum) and the date of
birth you provide (6 Aug 1888) is an exact match to the baptism I provided.

I hope this gets you started. You might try scanning the Horta passaportes
to find them leaving the Azores. You can access them, as well as church
records through *https://tombo.pt/* .

Good luck,

Bill

Manuel was born 13 Mar 1890 (all born in Pico)
his father Manuel 15 Oct 1859 and his mother Isabel Soares about 1862, both

Lauriana 6 Aug 1888 (most sources says she was born in Almagriera, Pico)
As I understand it Almagriera is on Santa Maria island, not Pico, but I am

father Manuel Rose (no birth date)

Rosemarie and I take 30-40 researchers to Salt Lake City periodically for a

June of NEXT year. It's a lot of fun researching your ancestors with
others. The library seems to tolerate our noise level pretty well :) In
addition to the classes, we do one-on-one help where we sit with you

2018-05-21 Thread Rosemarie Capodicci
Kristie,
The CCA is the government site that house all of the actual documents:
Baptisms, Marriages, Deaths of all of the Azore Islands. It has been down
all weekend but hopefully, it will be back up soon! When you use the site
for Pico and Faial (CITCEM) you still must verify what you see with the
actual docs (CCA site).
You really need to go to the Azores GenWeb site, here:
http://www.worldgenweb.org/azrwgw/ and read the research helps. Where do
you live? I live and work in CA, and I volunteer at the Monterey Family
History Center on Tuesdays from 1 to 4pm. So, if you or anyone in the area
needs help, please come and I will help you!

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Faial and Pico Azores

2018-05-21 Thread bsei2816
It is difficult to know which island interests you.

There is an Almagreira (Lajes do Pico), but it is not on Santa Maria
island. It is a locality on the north side of Lajes do Pico on the island
of Pico. Being part of the Lajes do Pico freguesia, the parish should be
Santissima Trinidade.

There is also a freguesia on Santa Maria island called Almagreira with the
parish Nossa Senhora de Bom Despacho. It has only been its own freguesia
since about 1903 so CCA only has records for a few years. Prior to 1903
it was part of Nossa Senhora de Assunç ão in Vila do Porto, Santa Maria.

CITCEM that Cheri referred to cannot help with Santa Maria island, but I
did find some possible leads in Lajes do Pico. These can't be confirmed
until CCA comes up.

A Manuel Rosa, born 22 March 1832 Lajes do Pico and died 6 March 1904 also
in Lajes was married to a Maria Jacinta (no surname or parents names given)
on 9 Jun 1859. They had a daughter named Laureana in 1865.

An Isabel Teresa, born 16 November 1858, daughter of Manuel Brum Silveira
Soares married a Manuel Rosa Câtelo.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Faial and Pico Azores

2018-05-19 Thread Kristie Scherm
Hello, I am new to this group and am looking for help with my Azores
family. My grandmother was Mary Rose from Lemoore, California. Her father
was Manuel Rose (son of Manuel Rose and Isabella Soares or Treza) and her
Mother was Lauriana Rose Simas Rose Ormond (daughter of Manuel Rose and
Maria deBrum). If anyone has any information on how I can find out more
information, it would be greatly appreciated. Apparently they were from
Faial and/or Pico islands of the Azores. Thanks so much for the help.

Luiz.

Miguel da Rocha and Bárbara Roiz are my ancestors too.
I descend from their daughter Maria de Faria who married Matias Pereira in
São Pedro, Ribeira Grande, on 3 jul 1666. Matias was from Rabo de Peixe.

I have a lot of ancestors in Ribeira Grande living in the late 1500s and
early 1600s.

It's Faial da Terra, even though the priest didn't write it out. You're in
1603, and paper and ink weren't exactly in abundance. And as someone said
earlier, they would state "ilha da Faial" for "island of Faial" if someone came

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Faial the Island or Faial da Terra, Sao Miguel?

2016-01-17 Thread Cheri Mello
It's Faial da Terra, even though the priest didn't write it out. You're in
1603, and paper and ink weren't exactly in abundance. And as someone said
earlier, they would state "ilha da Faial" for "island of Faial" if someone
came from there.

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Faial de Terra or Ilha Faial?

Yes You should look in the records of NS da Graca in Fayal da Terra on Sao
Miguel. Usually when the person is from another island the record will have the
word for island “ilha” followed with the name of the island.

have looked in Conceicao and Faial da Terra with no luck. If you recognize

2012-06-05 Thread Mike
I have a question about the island of Faial, my family had a farm, is it
possible to narrow down the villages your searching by knowing if certain
areas of the island is more suitable for farming?

[AZORES-Genealogy] Faial, Manuel Clara Amelia Rose

2009-09-27 Thread Patricia Butcher
Does anyone have any clues or possible connections to the Manuel
Clara Amelia Kaishada Rose (Rosa) line from Faial? This info below
is from a second cousin of mine is posted on Ancestry. I questioned
the Kaishada name thinking perhaps it was casada from the
priest's record was translated incorrectly but this cousin insists
that is what his grandmother told him. However, I still feel it is an
error. Thanks...

Patricia
