Maria, I would say as a general rule that Antonio is abbreviated often but
Antao is not at all. I don't think in all of my research that I've ever see
Antao abbreviated.

Although the record is good, I'm not sure about the father's name.Because 
I'm searching for ANTONIO Ferreira, I thought I found the right couple.   Then 
I read the godparents and there's Antao Ferreira whose signature is on many of 
the Baptisms at that time.  The priest records that Antao, The Godfather
