Tony S,

Sometimes you have to use the shape or outline of the word. Especially
when the record is a little faint.

The hour is 11 pm. Six and eleven in Portuguese are both 4 letters. You
can draw a perfect rectangle around 6 (seis), but when you do the outline
around 11, part of it will dangle down (onze). When the z is handwritten
that is. I hope this makes sense.

58 is close enough. The person who may know his/her age is deceased, so
they are getting the information secondhand from another relative.
Depending on that relative and their state of mind (a grieving spouse who
discovered her husband out in the field), you may get slightly incorrect
information. And depending on the time period, people may not know their
age. We are asked about our ages for many applications, banking
information, security questions, etc. Our ancestors weren't asked about
their birth back then, so they can be off.

Yes, it says married to Maria Phylomena. So he was married at the time of
his death. If he was widowed, it would have said viuvo de Maria (or viuva
in the case of a woman whose husband had died).

I think the 4th line above Cha, where he squished in something says that
Francisco died in a house that had no number. sem numero de I
can't make out the last word. without number of

He was buried in the cemetery of this freguesia of de Belem. The
church in Terra Cha is Nossa Senhora de Belem, correct?

You're going great!

2013-12-28 Thread Anthony Soares
Any help confirming what I have is appreciated. Slowly getting better at
translating,Here is what I have been able to decipher. It is the record on
the top left.

Francisco Machado Corvello Soares

15 May 1901 in the sixth hour of the night

age 58 (this is off by baptism should be 60)

Maria Phlyomenia ( I believe to be living, i don't see him listed as
widower)

Son of Francisco Machado Corvello and Anna Custodia of Sao Pedro

On the fourth line down above Cha d esta freguesia Nossa something is
written I can't make out

Also trying to figure out the cemetery four lines up from bottom Something
? de Belem, wondering if Church or public?
