Usually they left from their home port. But if the next boat to America was from a different port and they had to get to America, they went to the that port and caught the next boat out. Antone is not an anglicized version of Antonio. It's a phonetic spelling of what was heard. The anglicization of Antonio would be Anthony, which would be the literal translation. My grandmother was from Sao Jorge. Her passport was issued from Sao Miguel. I have no explanation why, but that is where hers was from. It was issued in the early 1900s.
