Hi Maria Elena, Yes there is a Madeira email list like this one. The email is prt-made...@rootsweb.com. I believe if you send an email to that address saying SUBSCRIBE it should get you on the list. In the meantime, the way Erica explained how to view the Madeira films on line at FamilySearch.org is the best way of doing it, just follow her instructions. I'm not so sure about that. Tombo.pt shows only 975 Madeira records digitized by the Madeiran government so far, with more to go. Family Search has 50? Someone needs to sit down and compare the two. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Question on Madeira research
Familysearch.com has just digitized almost all of their Madeira records. You can access them through searching their "catalog". Type in the place "Madeira, Portugal" and "search". Then choose the option of "church records - 50 items". This will bring you to a list of all of the freguesias of Madeira. Pick your freguesia and click on it. That will bring up a list of all the records they have. If the icon to the right is a camera, then you can click on that link and look through them. If the icon is a film reel, then those records are not uploaded to the internet yet and only available through ordering them directly. CHERI- thank you so much for all that info. I've been trying to find the List on Cindi's List and I couldn't and then I saw your email. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Question on Madeira research
Madeira is digitizing their records too. Their site is called the ABM and you can access it through Tombo.pt. However, I think the ABM is down at the moment. Madeira has only 2 islands: Madeira, (about the same population as Sao Miguel) and Porto Santo. The Madeira list is run by Luis Beal and it is housed at Rootweb.
