[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Trip to Azores, April or May
Good morning, My family and I will be in Velas/ Sao Jorge for month of May. Would love any tips. Would also relish the possibility of meeting anyone who might be there during same period. Thanks! [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Trip to Azores, April or May
Hello! People: I´m a new member, let me present me: I´m Carlos Jose Leal, my granfather was Jose Silveira Leal. He was born in Horta Faial in 1875, my great granfather was Jacinto Silveira Leal, from azores too. My granfather came to Dominican Republic in 1901 and had a huge family, I´ll let you now more about this family in other moment, I´m preparing a site with everybody. *Well, Talking about the trip to Azores in April or May, I would like to know if this is an open invitation for all the members or is for a special group.* ** *I´m planing going to Azores, next year, and i think this is a great moment, in order to know people´s group.* Regards Carlos Jose leal *** On Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 10:20 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I agree with Cheri. It may still be a little cool and stormy if you go too early. Also, if you go too early, the flowers, especially Hydrangeas, will not yet be at their best. There are some potential trade-offs you need to evaluate. Fares may be cheaper in April than in May and hotel accomodations easier to get and lower priced. (Google Quinta do Martelo and Aldeia da Cuada). As Cheri said, there are going to be more Festas in May also. I personally would prefer May based on previous experience but, you never know how the weather's going to turn out. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Trip to Azores, April or May
For me, weather would be the biggest factor. Google azores weather and read some of the info. The temperatures are almost the same in Apr (63 F) vs May (66 F) for the highs. The lows were 54 F and 55 F for May. Not much difference. But if you play around on some of the weather sites, you can read their almanacs and get more info. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Trip to Azores, April or May
The month of May have the processions which is a great time to go. I've gone in July and in August and it's been very humid there at that time. During spring and fall they wear sweaters and light jackets. It really depends on your body temperature. I find people coming from a warmer climate tend to be comfortable and actually cool because it's an island. When my relatives come to New England during that time, they seem to be cold and in winter they are totally freezing when it's a nice 30 degree sunny day which we are acclimated to. People from Florida are wearing heavy jackets like its winter when we hit 60 degrees here while the New Englanders are wearing maybe long sleeve shirts. It's funny. I'll be leaving from England on a cruise to Denmark, Germany, Finland, Russia, Tallinn and Holland and back on May 9. Now I really need to know what I need to wear. Will it be like our late winter is the question.
