Sandra,

My cousin is a descendant of Sebatiso Gonsalves Borges and Roza Maria through
their daughter Maria a Nazarette who married Agistingho Coelho de Mello in 1818
in Alyares.

When I went to search for their marriage all I can find is the one for this
couple which is confusing (his name being sodifferent). Is this the same man?
I don't know, but do note thee is a Maria da Nazarette I his family (his mother
I think) so it may be them. Still working to figure this one out.

Sine zbill Seidler told me about the index this morning I've been finding all
kinds of family for my cousin.

The search continues.

I also have Manuel Borges de Barcellos married to Maria de Nazareth from
Altares, Terciera in my Tree. I believe they married 13 Jan 1744. My
connection is their daughter, Maria Joaquina de Nazareth married 09 May
1785, Altares, to Joao Alveres Ferreira Berbereya from Biscoitos, Terceira.
Is there a connection? I have not located any birth/baptism records for any

One more thing, Terceira has a marriage index that I used to double check
the names I thought I read before my last post (because I'm not that good
at reading these records). I recall you researching Sao Miguel, Faial, and

 A recommendation;
Joao just finished obtaining records for me as well. The first steps in
breaking through my current brick wall. He found exactly what I requested and
was extremely quick getting my records. I thought it would be slower, like
those of us in Oklahoma.
I got a packet today, but have yet to open my mail. ( Not home long enough. My
son also wrote from boot camp. It's a great day for mail.)
I tried for months to do it myself and got very lost, who went where with what
name.
I highly recommend Joao Ventura.

In my optinion, Joao Ventura is the go to person for research information
and, in Terceira, where he lives, he has a wealth of information.

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Terceira marriage records... how to find?

How does someone in the U.S. go about finding marriage records in the Azores
(specifically Terceira)? The story was always that Avo came over alone
after being married by proxy (1920-1921). I would think that would involve
lots of paperwork but not necessarily church records. I suspect it is just
a story because I've found conflicting information in the Ellis Island
database and in passenger line records.

Is this the kind of thing you'd need to hire someone (on Terceira) to
research? Has anyone had any success with this?

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.

If you know the church you can go to the site below and look thru the
records yourself.
