Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Thank you everyone
Kellie, Glad you are finding a lot of help in your researching. The more you try to read the records the better you get. Just make sure that you practice on the later records so that you know what the names are in your village. The further back you go in the records the more the priests used abbreviations so you need to have an idea of what the names are and how they are abbreviated! Good luck and you can always post 'need help' documents! There is a lot of help here and most will at lease try to translate what they see. I just wanted to thank everyone in this group. For a few months I have watched and looked at records posted and translations. After the new cheat sheets (love these indexes) I decided to take a stab add it. I have added so much DOCUMENTED info now and deleted a bunch of stuff I got from other trees previously. So many people have names in the trees of all these children with last names matching Dad which thanks to this group I have learned that is not how it goes no wonder I couldn't find marriages and children. I am loving learning about the culture in the Azores, the people, naming practices, etc. This group has been amazing. Pat Corbera is on the Madeira list. I think she's 100% Madeiran and has nothing from the Azores. Another reason we really should get in the habit of signing our last names. [AZORES-Genealogy] Thank you to Sherry Barnhurst and Elaine Sharp
I want to thank Sherry Barnhurst, a very helpful contributor to this list, who found some very important information for me. I live in Virginia but I found Sherry on this list when she posted that she had Graciosa films in the Moreno Valley CA Family History Center. I got in touch with her, sent her my info (father from Graciosa) and by (laboriously) searching the Graciosa films, she found my grandfather's baptismal records. And in those records she also found his parents and grandparents on both sides - that's 2 more generations in my family, my great-grandparents and my great-great-grandparents! When my husband and I were in CA at Christmas, we arranged a meeting with Sherry at the FHC and drove over to meet her and see what she had. She then told us how to go about finding more info in our local FHC in VA. This was a wonderful experience for me. Her amazingly generous work and willingness to help is typical of the people on this list. We new searchers could never make such fast progress without the help of all of you who are willing to share your knowledge and efforts. A year and a half ago when I first started all this, Elaine Sharp also on this list and also from CA, was the person who single-handedly found the key to all the information I've found since then. I thank her again for all her work and encouragement. I've met several people from a family I never knew I had and I'm going to the Azores in May! I've arranged with Joao Ventura, an Azorean researcher also recommended on this list, to help me with finding family documents before I get there. I hope someday I'll be able to help others in this very rewarding work of finding our family's stories. -- -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to azores+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. [AZORES-Genealogy] Thank you, Joao Ventura
I have to let everyone know how important and wonderful the information is that Joao has been gathering about men who wanted to be priests. Joao just sent me 10 pages of charts that are the ancestors of my Manuel Teixeira Homem da Costa from Santa Cruz, Terceira. This information is the result of Joao's work putting together the families from Terceira where my grandmother, Maria Jose Ferreira Dinis was born. Thank you Joao and, please keep up the very important work you are doing. Celeste Perry ccgran...@yahoo.com -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to azores+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. [AZORES-Genealogy] Thank you all for your condolences
I wanted to thank you all for your condolences. I am sorry if I have not acknowledged everyone personally. At some point in the last few weeks, things got overwhelming. Know that I read every email and that I appreciate everyone's words. Things are getting a little easier. We had a wonderful celebration of life party with family and friends at my sister's house a couple of weeks after he died. We were able to take many photos of the relatives. Those photos will be treasured by us all and will add another element to my family tree mementos. I've spent quite a bit of time going over the last weeks of my Dad's life. I'm happy that I was here and that because I was here my Dad was able to live his life out in the home he lived in for 48 years. We are now slowly going through his belongings. And, I keeping an eye out for genealogical gems, things to hold on to for the next generation. I am also preparing to move in the next couple of months, so life is still in disarray. I hope soon I can get back into genealogy. I found some interesting things before my Dad's passing and I am eager to get back to it and place it all together. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: [AZORES-Genealogy]Thank you for NEHGS birth/marriage - success - question first name Efigena
Hello E, I was wondering how you went about getting the marriage certificate and the notice of intention of marriage. I found a marriage record on the site but only know you have to write to them to get the certificate. I did not even know they had a intention of marriage record. Do you write to the same place? Let me know please. Thank you Vivian --- On Fri, 8/28/09, bellema...@gmail.com wrote: From: bellema...@gmail.com Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Thank you for NEHGS birth/marriage - success - question first name Efigena To: "azores" Date: Friday, August 28, 2009, 12:45 PM I want to thank all of you who looked up the birth record for John Silva on NEHGS. I am not sure if the birth record found is him but through that effort someone found the marriage record his parents that I have been looking for a long time, Maria Victor Pedro. Unfortunately, the NEHGS index lists her as Pedras and well as the marriage certificate I received from NB. But I paid extra and asked for the Notice of Intention of marriage (the form they themselves filled out to obtain the license) and her name is Maria Victor Pedro. I believe she shares the same father as my Isabel (my BRICK WALL) but a different mother. I am now in contact with one of her family members.
