Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Genealogist for hire in the azores
For many years, Pat Nostrome and I, have been working with João Ventura ( hero...@yahoo.com ) , and have recently sent sent him a list of inquires for what is needed to figure out some DNA relationships here in the states. Since João knows the history and customs of the Azores Islands, he was able to unravel a mystery that we didn't know existed, our surname. We were researching for Anselmo, not knowing that it was originally Vieira, and had changed to distinguish the many Vieira families on the isle of Sao Miguel. So when my Grandfather was born in 1871, our Vieira Family became Vieira Anselmo. Shortly after arriving in CA, they stopped using the Vieira surname. Pat Nostrome and I highly recommend João . Hi John, How far did you get back with the Ataide line in Graciosa? I have a line that goes pretty far back with the Atiade's in Graciosa. Joao also did a lot of work for me. I plan to use him again for the Passport records. He is accurate, quick and is a great value. When you are first learning you can easily make mistakes. After receiving the information and digital copies of the records with English summary of the facts I went back and located the records for myself. I learned a lot this way and knew that I was not making a mistake. Now I’m beginning to feel a little more comfortable to work on my own (searching and translating). Still need a lot of help so I’m always asking for assistance here. I’m presently working on developing width in my tree (in other words siblings of my relatives or family groups). This helps me find the connection between my DNA matches (aka cousins). Good luck. The people you meet doing this are great people. They are so helpful. Be sure to give that information to your researcher. It may cost you a little more since you only know "probably Ribeira Grande." Some researchers will work with you with that limited information and others won't. It's up to each individual researcher. Good luck! Thank you. I am looking for my grandparents who were born in the 1890s on sao miguel. Probably in Ribeira grande. There names are maria assumpcao borges (de sousa calouro) and camillo carreiro. His father was alverinho carreiro. Both my grandparents came to the boston area in the early 1900s. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Genealogist for hire in the azores
Suzanne C, Since I don't know if you are a 20 year old with grandparents who were born in the 1930s or if you are an 80 year old with grandparents born in the late 1800s, it's kinda hard to tell you what to do. You can look at the researchers for hire on the Azores GenWeb here: https://goo.gl/nDfVUx Include the names of the ancestors, their birthdates (or approximate), and their birth locations. If you don't have the birth location, most of the researchers won't be able to help you.
