Hi Doug, Imagine a couple that is married for a long time yet, 20, 25 five years or so, with all their siblings, the young one with 10 or more years old and they don´t wait for anymore child.Then the woman gets pregnant and a new and unexpected baby is born to the family. This child is a serôdio or seródio, a 'filho temporão', as we say here in Brazil. That's why the word originally does mean "later fruit".
