Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] CCA Guidance - da Rocha de Borba abt. 1850's Sao Bartolomeu

Thank you Helen for you reply.

That's what we were trying to figure out too. One translation thought it said
Jose was deceased when his son Jose was born. But then another thought Joao
and Matilde were Jose's (the father) sibilings and until I could find the
marriage record of Jose and Custodia we were at a standstill. The 2nd
translation thought it was reading the grandfather of the child (Jose born in
1850) was deceased. So, now I need to re-read the one translation that thought
it said grandfather was deceased and see if all three generations (Grandfather,
father and child being my GGGrandfather) were all Jose da Rocha de Borba's.

Your addition is wonderful news!

We actually stayed at a Quinta in Candida in Terceira (right outside of Angra),
so I was wondering if the area was home to a family by the name of Candida too.

I will definatly keep an eye out for your Manoel. Where did Manoel immigrate
to?

My best to you,

Robin Borba Besotes

  Robin
Jose da Rocha da Borba and Custodia Candida were married March 21, 1849. He
is the son of Francisco da Rocha da Borba and Anna Theodoro. She is the
daughter of Joaquim Ferreira and Maria Candida.

I'm missing something. How can Joao da Rocha Borba and his sister Matilde
Candida be the children o Jose da Rocha Borba if he was married in 1849. The
marriage record didn't say he was a widow, at least I don't think it did.

By the way Candida is not a place, it's a name. Pretty common in Terceira I
think. If in your research you connect with a Manoel da Rocha da Borba married
to (1) Maria do Rosario m. 1724 and (2) Maria Antonia m 1725 let me know.
Manoel is my husband's G+grandfather. He is also from Sao Bartolomeu.

One more question Helen. Have you come across any other children of Jose da
Rocha de Borba and Custodia Candida?

Any suggestions on where I can find a death record for Jose da Rocha de Borba
prior to 1850 in Terceira?

Here's the baptism for Jose' son (also of the same name) where it says the
father is already deceased:

Jose, son of Jose da Rocha de Borba and (his wife) Custodia Candida, from the
Parish of Sao Bartolomeu dos Regatos of Ilha Terceira (Terceira Island), born
in February 10, 1850, he was baptized at home because of life threatening, by
me the Vicar bellow mentioned (or signed) on the 21st of the same month and
year. He was brought to the Church where I applied all
the rituals of the church and the saint oil (sacred oil) and witnessed Joao da
Rocha de Borba, and his sister Matilde Candida, son and daughter of Jose da
Rocha de Borba already deceased, all resident in this same Parish. I wrote and
signed this record
Vicar Joao Coelho da Mae de Deus

I've gone thru the CCA for Sao Bartholomeu from 1849 to 1850 to no avail.
Wouldn't it be there if the father died prior to the birth of his son? I'm not
sure what direction to go in now. I don't have the parent's wedding
information yet as I'm not quite sure a date period to search nor have I found
the brother and sister of Jose as listed above: Joao da Rocha de Borba and his
sister Matilde Candida (again have no idea of a date period to search for these
two children's baptism's).

CANDIDA - I'm curious if anyone knows of the area of Candida in Terceira? Is
there a relation between the name of Matilde Candida and Custodia Candida and
the area both of the same name?

One piece of the puzzle at a time.
