Type: mapa lagoa sao miguel into your search engine (I used Google) and then I clicked on the Maps tab. Rua do Vigario runs north/south and is to the right of the red marker. Maybe you can find a better map. http://www.igogo.pt/junta-de-freguesia-de-nossa-senhora-do-rosario/ Cheri Mello Listowner, Azores-Gen Researching: Vila Franca, Ponta Garca, Ribeira Quente, Ribeira das Tainhas, Achada -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores. Liz: If you have access to Ancestry.com you may be able to find the same people in their 1900 Census. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Street Addresses / Reasons for leaving the Azores
John, if you are still a part of this group, please contact me. I had some stuff come up & I don't think I ever got back to you on this. I am interested in the information you have about the Correia family. Since posting this, I have located the great granddaughter of Maria Madelena Correia MEDEIROS and she gave me information on her line. I am also curious about the Antonia do Sacramento name. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Street address House number, for Azores
Tanya, Records of death might be your best bet on this.Since Manoel Rapozo de Amaral (now spelled as Manuel Raposo do Amaral) died in 1904, then maybe one or two of his siblings stayed behind in Candelaria, or his wife's village of Ginetes. So trace them and/or their grandchildren, up to 1905 which is where the Sao Miguel records on CCA all end right now. At the very top of the death look for wording like "in a house with no number ..." (struck out there, except it does give the street), or maybe a lucky find like "in house number 21 on rua da Areia" (a street I am making up, but it says the actual house number).Keep in mind that whatever house number you find in 1900 will almost certainly have changed by now. But maybe you can use the biblioteca to locate an old map.I did exactly these things for my Hungarian ancestors. I located a map from about 100 years ago and it shows every house in the village. I would think something will exist for you like that.Boa sorte e boa viagem!Doug da Rocha HolmesSacramento, CaliforniaPico & Terceira Genealogist916-550-1618www.dholmes.com Original Message Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Street address House number, for Azores From: tanya808smithDate: Fri, April 25, 2014 1:50 pm To: azores@googlegroups.com Aloha,Does anyone know which type of records would include addresses / house numbers etc. I'm talking about older records 1800 -1900? Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Street address House number, for Azores
Tanya S, I don't think they had addresses in the 1800s. I think it was just a house on ___ street and everyone knew that it was the Silva house or whatever. Re: Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Street Map of New Bedford 1876 from Whaling Museum
Jeffrey, Interesting site to peruse but there is nothing to compare with being able to see the whole map in front of you. I really did get a great bargain looking at what they charge for the map! Think I will check out what other maps this site might have as I am interested in a Boston map ca 1830-70. I am looking for a map before "they built a highway where the street you are looking for is." "E" -- To unsubscribe from this group, send email to azores+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Street Map of New Bedford 1876 from Whaling Museum
That is a great deal from the Whaling Museum Gift shop for $10. The same map is available at the Boston Public Library Norman B Leventhal Map Center for $50. Although at the BPL center, you can download it free as a smaller version. Also at the BPL is that you can view it with its magnification option before you purchase it from the Whaling Museum. So if you want to see it magnified before you purchase it from the Whaling Museum, go to http://maps.bpl.org/details_10177/?mtid=269 Good luck, great deal!
