[BackupPC-users] OT - Can someone recommend an ATA controller for a big hard drive?
Hi Folks, I really want to get a bigger hard drive as part of upgrading my BackupPC machine to the latest version of Fedora Core and BackupPC. I'm over 80% disk utilization right now. I'm using a 120 Gig HD right now to back up a 200 gig and a 60 gig server. I'm extremely tempted by this deal at Fry's... http://www.outpost.com/entry?site=op:mfe031406&sku=4596287 The problem is that my backup "server" is a Dell 466 Celeron workstation. I know I'm going to need a PCI card to drive this 400 Gig UDMA HD. So, does anyone know of a decent, cheapish, card that will be picked up by Fedora and bridge the gap between my old Celeron based computer and this monster hard drive? Thanks, ck - Take Surveys. Re: [BackupPC-users] Authentication failing for Incremental backups (3.0b1)
Kevin, Other users have noted that authentication for incrementals doesn't work in smbclient version 3.0.23. I don't know if there is a fix or an understanding of the root cause. Down-reving smbclient is one solution. Craig - Take Surveys. Earn Cash. [BackupPC-users] Disk Usage for Replacement Full Backup
Hi there, First of all, fantastic work. I've been looking for something like this for a long time, and this accomplishes everything that I need from a backup system. I've got a question that I don't believe is answered in the docs (I did actually read them! I'm just beginning to do some tests with this software before rolling it out into production. I'm working on a very tight budget with very large datasets, meaning I don't have a lot of free space available... so the drives which will store the backups are only slightly bigger than what I expect one full backup and a couple of incrementals will occupy. This ought to work fine the first time around -- but what will happen when it tries to make a second full backup (which will replace the first, since it's set to keep only one full backup)? Will it require the space needed to store both full backups, or somehow gracefully delete the files from the old backup as it creates the new? or do I need to beg for more $$ to increase the size of the backup drive array? [BackupPC-users] how to check the size of directory to restore?
I want to restore the profile of a user. I would like to know, how big it is. How can I do it? Basically, I would like to check the directory size in BackupPC web interface - right now it only says the size is "4096", which is perhaps true from technical point of view, but not from user's point of view. I know I can du "du -sh /backuppc/pc/.../directory" - but that will calculate only the compressed size. -- Tomasz Chmielewski http://wpkg.org - Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
