Hi Machael!

Michael Mansour wrote:

The pool and the pc directories must be in the same FILESYSTEM because of the
hardlinks. But that can be arranged. See below.

Or will I need a new BackupPC installation somewhere?

No. Use LVM instead: Configure your current disks and the NAS as separate
physical volumes and place them in the same volume group. In that case you'd
have to use iSCSI to the NAS.

 Thanks.

[BackupPC-users] Trying Again: BackupPC Update Damages/Misreads Archive Host Config

2008-02-11 Thread John Medway, Rim Semiconductors
I ran a yum update on my Fedora 7 machine, and among all the other updates
was one for BackupPC. My BackupPC package is now BackupPC-3.0.0-3.fc7 I
might have had BackupPC-2.something beforehand), but I do not know for certain.

The problem is that the machine that was my Archive machine now is being
treated as a normal host, complete with a This PC has never been backed
up!! message. The same old config.pl file is in place in that PC's
directory, so I'm at a bit of a loss, given the on-line docs imply that it
should be set up the same way it is.

Any thoughts on what happened? or how to fix the archive record, and get
back in production?

Help!

[BackupPC-users] Extending / adding another pool location

2008-02-11 Thread Michael Mansour
Hi,

I have a current BackupPC installation which uses it's local disks for the pool.

I've been asked to use NAS storage for backing up an additional 6 servers
we're adding to the backups.

The NAS server we use is a Snap Server 650 (Linux based) so makes available
it's storage via NFS, Samba, iSCSI.

I'm not sure how to do this or whether it would work for BackupPC (I'm using
the latest version).

Can BackupPC use two disk areas? ie. keep it's existing servers (about 8 of
them) backing up to local disk and then adding another area from NAS (NFS
mounted for example) and tell it to backup the new 6 servers onto the NFS
mount point?

Or will I need a new BackupPC installation somewhere?

Thanks.

Michael.

The review mentions graphics support - and Nicholas specifically

Why not just buy a used machine, or better still, re-use one you've already
got? All my BackupPC servers are old, re-used hardware, and they work great.
And, if you get a machine that is well known (example: PowerEdge 400SC)

Not a bad idea, too! Biggest drawback is that those PowerEdge 400SCs
are power hogs compared to the system that Nicholas specced out. I'd
estimate the PowerEdge to idle around 100 watts where his system will
likely idle around half that.

Perhaps there's something out there with lower power consumption that
is inexpensive on the used market.

Could this be a way to change the default Server Backup Path to an external

Stefan Mosleitner wrote:

No, you cannot use a Samba share for the BackupPC pool, because Samba
shares don't support the hardlinks that BackupPC uses for its pooling
feature.

Pour ce qui est de votre problème, avez vous testé la commande via le

Hello,

I use BackupPC with Rsyncd in order to backup Windows client.
And it's possible to declare file only and/or exclude with rsyncd.

rsyncd is it installed correctly ? Works ?
If yes, you can configure it via the web interface, either per-pc or for
all client.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Good luck.

The easy solution is to mount your backup drive/array on this location

I think the only common problem is with files that some other program
