[BackupPC-users] Backup to a remote site, Rsync always sends complete file.

2009-10-07 Thread Larve_Q

Aha…found the solution.

I’ve been trying to backup a local mounted volume, when installed a Rsync
server on the other side it worked perfect!

My mistake… [Embarassed]

[BackupPC-users] What happened to the part of the Wiki with user-contributed utilities?

2009-10-07 Thread Jeffrey J. Kosowsky
I was trying to add updated versions of my routines (e.g.,
BackupPC_deleteFile, BackupPC_fixLinks) to the user contribution
portion of the Wiki and was not able to find it. Not sure if I'm
looking in the wrong place
(http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/backuppc/index.php?title=Main_Page#Welcome_to_the_BackupPC_Wiki.21)
or if that area of the Wiki has moved or been eliminated.

Thanks.

that area of the Wiki? Frankly, the Main_Page doesn't seem to link to *any*
wiki content. But the wiki pages seem to be there, and they're really easy to
find: just press Random page repeatedly until you've found what you're
looking for. I was lucky, I got to title=CustomUserScripts with three or
four clicks. How many does it take you (and don't cheat by using the page
title ;-)?

Assuming I ever manage to create a SF account (the pages seem to be optimized
toward not working with my browser version), I might even join the distributed
content recovery effort (sort of an fsck for wikis ... we could create a page
lost+found and put links to any pages we find in there).

Have fun.

Holger

[BackupPC-users] Restore via rsync on Vista client

2009-10-07 Thread Erik Hjertén

Hello all!

I have had a disk crash and now I need to restore my files. Restoring
through as a ZIP-file file works fine, but I'm also interested in
restoring directly with rsync, but I can't get it to work. All that is
created is an empty folder where I choosed to restore the files. The log
says all is fine:

2009-10-07 20:21:51 restore started below directory erikdata to host eddie
http://kakrafoon.dyndns.org/backuppc/index.cgi?host=eddie
2009-10-07 20:22:11 restore 1 complete (80 files, 10326140 bytes, 0 dirs, 0
xferErrs)

My setup:
Backuppc 3.0.0 on Ubuntu 8.04
Client is Windows Vista with Deltacopy 1.3 for rsync functions.

I have looked into the rights for the Deltacopy service running on the
client. It's running as the local system, and the user SYSTEM has
all rights on the created folder. My guess is that this should be
sufficient.

Any thoughts, hints, solutions?

Thanks and kind regards
/Erik

I seem to remember a thread from back in early August with Craig and
others claiming that they were in the process of transferring over the
Wiki from Sourceforge to MediaWiki. Craig (and maybe others) mentioned
that they had full recent backup copies so the material should still
exist.

So, I guess I am asking whether the maintainer(s) of the Wiki are
aware of the problem and if so is there a solution in progress?

If not, what do we need to do to restore the wiki?

Given the number of FAQ posts that take up a good portion of the
bandwidth of this group, it seems like we would all be served by
having the wiki restored.

OK - I tried not to cheat but after 30 (yes THIRTY) tries, I finally
gave up and used the cheat

And I noticed one other little problem.
The actual scripts themselves seem to be missing...
   e.g.,
   http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/backuppc/index.php?title=User_Scripts_-_Client_-_Windows_VSS#Scripts

And as a non-Wiki expert, I'm not sure how I would add them back or
   even update them.

It's MediaWiki, apparently, and here's the relevant help page:

  http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Managing_files

I'm not sure if the toolbox appears if you're logged in, but it's
certainly not there when I look at it.

I think the problem is that I don't have authoring or editing
permissions (or at least so it said when I attempted to edit the
source page).

that remains true when you log in (I actually managed to create an account -
my fault, not sourceforge's). In case anyone was wondering, to edit a page,
you click on view source. Well, maybe that changes to edit once you have
permission ...

But I've found the navigation, from where you should be able to reach most
wiki pages (there are some listed as orphaned). Well, it *was* the navigation,
but I still think it needs major restructuring. Actually, I think it needs a
structure :-). In any case, here it is:

https://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/backuppc/index.php?title=Space.menu

At least, we can again provide links to existing wiki pages ...

Holger

I agree. I'm sorry I haven't done anything about this. Unfortunately
SF didn't do a very good job with their automatic transition, and I'm
a complete neophyte when it comes to MediaWiki.

Currently I'm the only MediaWiki admin (by default, not by design :)).

I don't think it's possible to open editing to everyone on MediaWiki
with the way that SF has installed it, based on this ticket:

https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sourceforge/ticket/3638

At a minimum you need an SF account, and then editing permission
needs to be added using the MediaWiki admin interface.

I'm happy to add MediaWiki admin privileges to a couple of motivated
contributors (I just added Holger), who can then in turn add editing
permission to any SF user who requests it. Please send me your
requests off list.

It would be really great if we could repair (and then improve) the
wiki.

Craig
