[Bacula-users] update bacula on debian3.1
Hello all, I installed bacula on debian 3.1. I want to backup to DVD and I raed that I have to use a newer version than the version debian is installing. I downloaded the tar.gz and want to compile. When I do ./configure --wtith-mysql then I get the error that mysql.h is not found and the script stops: configure: error: Invalid MySQL directory /usr/include/mysql/ - unable to find mysql.h under /usr/include/mysql/ libmyscqlclient14-dev is installed and mysql.h in in the path /usr/include/mysql/. Can someone tell me what is the correct way to update bacula from 1.36 to 1.38? Can someone help? tia stefan pgpQKBO7YIWof.pgp Description: PGP signature - Using Tomcat but need to do more? Re: [Bacula-users] High Availability Bacula - Multiple Catalogues - Pros/Cons?
dbcheck is not a program for correcting corrupted databases. It will fix certain logical inconsistencies in Bacula database records and eliminate orphaned records (doing no harm other than wasting space). On Friday 11 August 2006 12:03, Dominic Marks wrote: All, Having had my first database corruption with Bacula, which I don't feel too bad about after 11 months on a medium sized site (compared to Veritas!) I have now discovered dbcheck and its limitations. I understand that dbcheck on a big database with millons and millions or rows like mine is going to take a long time. However, having the database locked for days on end is not really workable. So I thought I would start a discussion on possible workaround methods: 1. Per Client/Job Catalogues Clearly this would be quite inefficient but I can deal with suspending the backups of a single system or single job for a while. Also the dbcheck should be much quicker since it operates on a much smaller number of files. In my case I have a MySQL server dedicated to being a Bacula catalogue server and it has plenty of disc space so this might be a serious option for me, if not in general. Other than increasing the complexity of the installation somewhat and placing more work on the MySQL server, would there be other issues with this sort of setup? 2. Replicated MySQL Catalogue Server With a replicated server I could dbcheck against the slave while suspending the replication. Of course the master and slave would then be increasingly out of sync and I would still need to shutdown the master to fix problems encountered. Other ideas? comments? Re: [Bacula-users] getting both error and success messages while testing tape with btape
This is incorrect behavior (i.e. you should not get the MTWEOF error). It will *probably* work, but I wouldn't run my tape drive this way. It looks like Bacula is not seeing the logical end of tape marker, but is writing right to the physical end of the tape (very bad). Also, on a modern tape drive, Bacula should be backing up and re-reading the last record written, but it looks like you disabled that. Your tape drive modes are probably not set correctly -- could be either or both of the Bacula Device specification or the modes set by mt. Sorry, I cannot help any more than that. Re: [Bacula-users] Kernel panic from Bacula recovery CDs

The previous admin left very little in the way of documentation so that is one of our first tasks. Along those line, we want to be able to do a bare metal restore of the webserver to another machine. So be the good little geeks that we are, we RTFBM and followed the procedure to create the Bacula CDs. The problem we are experiencing is a kernel panic when booting off the CD, the specific message is unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3,1). Now, this tells me a couple of things: 1. Bacula is trying to mount a file system from the first partition of the first hard drive. Why? For all intents and purposes, it looks like a pivotroot is being executed, but I checked the linuxrc script and there is no pivotroot. I tried 'linux root=/dev/root' and got the same kernel panic on unknown-block(0,0). No, the old Bacula rescue CD does not do a pivot-root. 2. The Bacula CD can't find a fs module to load. While the module in question (ext3) may not be built into the kernel, it is in the initrd image that gets loaded. So why isn't it being found? Probably Debian has a different way of loading modules that RedHat/Fedora. Any suggestions on how to get these CDs to boot? The old Bacula rescue CD (as currently released) worked on RedHat/Fedora until FC5, where they changed something that made it fail. It didn't seem to work very well on other distros, mostly because I didn't have those distros available so could not try them. The old rescue CD is probably not worth trying to fix. There is a Knoppix version in the current CVS (and is also released) that *should* work, but I have never personally tried it. I believe that there is some documentation in the knoppix directory somewhere. I have a new rescue CD that I am working on, which is based on the mkcdrec code and which will be released in the near future -- it is actually ready for testing now, but not in a polished state. The best bet would be to wait until I officially release it. If you *really* want to be on the bleeding edge of this problem, send me a note off-list and I'll post the code so you can download it and try it. I have booted it under SuSE 10.1, and am told it also boots under Fedora FC5. It *should* boot under most other distros, but that remains to be seen. -- Regards, Faber Fedor President Linux New Jersey, Inc. 908-320-0357 800-706-0701 http://www.linuxnj.com - Using Tomcat but need to do more?
