[Bacula-users] Restore of a PostgreSQL dumbp via fifo

2007-11-28 Thread Michael Neuendorf
Dear bacula community,

I started to implement a bacula solution a few weeks ago and it works
pretty good.

Now I've a little problem. I use the script from the wiki to dump my
PostgreSQL database via fifo to the file daemon. The backup seems to
work (2 GB of data was written to the tape). Then I tried to restore to
a different server, but there (surprise) was just created a fifo file. I
tried to do a pg_restore with reading from the fifo, but the director
give an error (ERR=Interrupted system call).

Has someone a clue? Maybe a code sniplet from a restore script?

By the way. I'd like to save the dump to tape and over a vpn to a remote
location. Is there a way to do this in one step (do just one dump from
the database) without a temporary dump file, because the dump needs
about 2 hours.

Thanks in advance.

Michael

That doesn't fit - is it an Ultrium (LTO) drive or a DLT one?

This can be observed if the tape drive configuration is not correct
(though your report doesn't give many details...).

Have you run the btape test with your current setup?

If you didn't, you should do this first.

The end-of-tape related options might be the ones to look at closely -
setting "Two EOF" and "BSF at EOM" both could help, for example. Note
that this is OS dependent, too. Linux should work without these
settings when using the standard st driver, but the IBMtape one might
behave differently...

If you can't get this fixed using btapes tests and its advice, it
might help to closely examine one problem tape. Using bls, dd and mt
you can find out about the actual blocks, files, and EOF marks on tape.

[Bacula-users] Bad response to Append Data command.

2007-11-28 Thread marc . smith
Hi,

I am using Bacula 2.2.6 with a Spectra Logic T50 tape library (with 2 LTO3
drives). I have about 20 jobs that are run nightly, allowing Bacula to run
multiple jobs at once (one on each drive).

Here are my configuration files & log:

http://esweb.mcc.edu/~marc.smith/bacula/

This seems to happen somewhat randomly, usually happens to a few of my
jobs each night. Other nights it doesn't happen to any. I can't really
seem to reproduce the problem reliably, I happened to get lucky this time
when I started 2 jobs. Here are the errors:

This has been discussed but not worked on. Incremental and
Differential backups will have this problem but Full backups will not.

[Bacula-users] Vista 64 and VSS

2007-11-28 Thread Douglas Schmidt
Bump and update.

I have upgraded to 2.2.6 client but still having the same issues.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Douglas Schmidt

Mon, 08 Oct 2007 07:05:44 -0700

I'm attempting to backup a Vista 64 workstation with Bacula 2.2.4and
getting errors for VSS on the machine. This is the first Vista 64
device I have attempted to use with Bacula. I am running multiple Vista 32
and XP clients with no errors.

The error message:

06-Oct 23:30 Schmidt-hp8150-fd: Schmidt-HP8150.2007-10-06_23 .05.05 Warning:
VSS was not initialized properly. VSS support is disabled. ERR=An attempt
was made to reference a token that does not exist.

Enable VSS = on is set in the fileset resource.

In Windows Event Viewer/Windows Logs/Applications I get the following errors
at the same time:

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: The VSS Coordinator class is not
registered. This may be caused due to a setup failure or as a result of an
application's installer or uninstaller.

Operation:

Instantiating VSS server
 ---
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine
CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80040154.

Operation:

Instantiating VSS server
-

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the client multiple times. I have also
verified in Windows Services that all of the COM+ services are running.

I Googled the Windows error messages and there is a fair bit of discussion
out there regarding various backup applications and Vista 64. Most of it
centers around Vista 64 not being capable of using the 32 bit requester.

Is anyone else out there experiencing the same issues? Or does anyone have
a workaround?

For the Bacula development community: If there is a need for testers for
Vista 32, Vista 64, XP or Linux, I am interested in assisting.

Thanks,

Re: [Bacula-users] Strange problem reusing a tape

2007-11-28 Thread Augusto Camarotti
Thanks Arno for helping me. It seems that I realized what the problem is :
1 - I was doing tape ejection after my jobs. Then, in the other day I was
only removing the tape and inserting the proper tape for that day in
particular.
2 - It seems that Bacula wasn't mounting automatically, as I was expecting
:). I guess it was trying to write on tape even without it being properly
mounted, and then, crashing and showing that problems.

The correct measure was adding a BeforeJob shell script, which mount the
tape drive, ending with that kind of problem.
Bacula is working just fine, and I almost give up trying hehehe

Again, sorry for my bad english, i know this message is messed up.

Re: [Bacula-users] Filesize in database

2007-11-28 Thread jay
Hope this proves useful to someone on the list. This short python script
will decode some of the values in the File.LStat field, or at least the ones
I needed when I wrote this. Script was written to work with MySQL, but
could easily be changed to query PostgreSQL or whatever else you want.
Would be nice to have something like this included in the tarball, I know I
will be using it a lot. Was only tested with MySQL 4.1 on a i386 RHEL4 box
with Python 2.5.1. Enjoy!

Well, I tried it and your fix worked but Kern closed the issue and
said he wants to remove the DVD writing code! What? I've been using it
for the last year with success and I don't know why he wants to remove
it. If he does, I'll have to look for another backup solution but that
would be a shame since I've invested so much time getting Bacula
configured.

I would attach the patch to the bug report so that Kern is aware of

[Bacula-users] BWEB problem (installed fine, config seems good, but some things doesn't work)

2007-11-28 Thread Balogh Ferenc
Hello all,

I have a problem with bweb (Bacula version 2.2.6, bweb version 2.2)
I successfully installed it on Slackware 12 (followed the installation
instructions), and it runs fine on http://slackware/bweb.
Shows information about clients, volumes, but some things doesn't work.

For example if I click on "Defined Jobs" under "Jobs" menu, it starts to
load something (but nothing happens) and after 30-40 seconds the browser
displays the page without jobs. The Apache error log shows something
about "bconsole" and an error with wrong parameter (-1).

I configured the paths, the file/dir permissions, the bweb.conf, looked
at the files...found nothing special.

I found that somebody on this list had the same issues, but there isn't
a solution.

Thanks for your help,

-vision-

[Bacula-users] 2.2.6 Client OS/X / Darwin Packages

http://digitalfreaks.org/~lavalamp/bacula-clientonly-2.2.6_Darwin-8.11.0-powerpc.tgz

The 8.11.0/powerpc binary is for 10.4.11 users stuck on XCode 2.5 (Most
of you).

Between the OS Revision, the CPU, and the XCode revision, there are
about 10 permutations of binaries which need to be provided.

Maybe trade in the iPod for a recent version of GCC?

The binaries (bacula-fd) manually extracted from the tarballs run just
fine w/o boostraping all of pkgsrc. Of course, I find OS/X to be kind
of boring w/o useful software (like, say, Bacula >:})

All you need is to put them in /usr/{pkg,local}/sbin/ and register with
the previously provided org.bacula.bacula-fd.plist file.

[Bacula-users] RHEL/CentOS and mtx

2007-11-28 Thread Mark Nienberg
I'm getting ready to upgrade my bacula server to better hardware and replace my
single tape drive with an autoloader. I saw this comment in the documentation:

"Note, we have feedback from some users that there are certain
incompatibilities
between the Linux kernel and mtx. For example between kernel 2.6.18-8.1.8.el5
of
CentOS and RedHat and version 1.3.10 and 1.3.11 of mtx. This was fixed by
upgrading
to a version 2.6.22 kernel."

Does anyone know if this issue has been resolved in the recent RHEL5.1 release?
 I
was planning on using RHEL/CentOS on the new server but I don't want to use
non-stock
kernels. If it is still a problem I could use a fedora distro instead.

Thanks,
Mark

Re: [Bacula-users] Error in compiling Bacula-2.2.6 (solved)

2007-11-28 Thread mevasquez

I remember reading a long time ago when I was configuring Bacula for HPUX
that I needed to remove --enable-static-tools from the ./configure options.
When I did this and ran make, everything compiled successfully. I then did
a make install with no problems. I have bacula up and running.

The binaries will require sahred libraries anyway, so it's more or
less useless to link in the other stuff statically.

The errors all seem to be related to SSL together with MySQL. It might
help to add SSL to your configure call.

Other than that, just check that your MySQL, SSL, and the
corresponding development packages are up to date - it's possible that
you don't have some of the necessary libraries or library versions
available.

If configuring with SSL doesn't help, try adding the SSL and SSL-devel
packages to your system. I don't know what they are called, though.

[Bacula-users] patch for Bacula bug 1016 - Re: DVD data not getting written to DVD

2007-11-28 Thread Richard Mortimer
Hi Kern,

Please find attached my patch that fixes Bacula bug 1016. Scott Simpson
has tested the patch and reports that it fixes the issue for him. I
haven't been able to test myself at present because I am quite happily
using 2.2.0 with DVD writing.

If other DVD writing bugs arise I'll gladly take a look at them although
currently I am only managing to read the bacula mailing lists once a
week or less at present.

Note. Neither Scott or myself can attach the patch to the bug so I am
sending it directly to you.

Regards

Richard

I doubt it has anything to do with the time. Let's see the pool definition for
the
default pool in your bacula-dir.conf file.

Actually, it looks like your autolabel mechanism is not incrementing properly.
I
think bacula is trying to operate multiple times on the same volume name.

Hear hear! I want to agree with this statement comletely. The
bconsole command and it's builtin help is a total mis-mash and not
very user friendly at all.

I've got a plan to sit down and sketch out more consistent and clear
set of commands for manipulating bacula from the command line. Anyone
else like the 'bcli' name?

Personally, I like how Legato (now EMC) has done their command line
tools and documentation and that's what I'm aiming to do. Of course,
I need to find the time to do this.

So you need to post your configuration and probably setup some smaller
test filesystem(s) on client(s) to run full backups against so you can
confirm what's up. But it does sound like you've got a major
problem.

Heck, I should do a test restore myself, or at least browse my backups
to make sure I've actually got data on my tapes.

I can certainly understand your frustration, it's not fun to have a
backup finish and then you get nothing for you troubles. In this
case, you need to look at the log files for both Mysql and Bacula.
Make sure you have the proper permissions on the various tables, etc.

Re: [Bacula-users] Bacula and Windows XP client: dir/file names with spec. chars (unicode?)

2007-11-28 Thread Vladimirs Vecgailis
Hi,

i'm experiencing the same problem except not with hungarian but with german
"Umlauts" - ö / ä / ü.

I even found a similar question/problem like mine (and now - like yours :-) ):

http://www.mail-archive.com/bacula-users@lists.sourceforge.net/msg21470.html

Backups works fine, but i get warnings in the LOG and the email.
Although the files/dirs with special char's are backup'ed. So i ignore these
errors for now...

If there would be any other solution i would be glad to hear about it.

Greetings
