hi,

@mark && @ Radosław

thanks :-) I didn't recognized the filesize in stat. I used sqlite3 + VACUUM to
reduce the file. So, for now I have to search if there any more files with that
size.

Did you optimize your my.cnf for your system? In many distributions
the default parameters are for a machine with a few MB of rm. Yes I
mean MBs of ram.

[Bacula-users] Fwd: Spooling attrs takes forever

2013-11-12 Thread Charles Douglass
This appears to have never posted. My apologies if I'm wrong and this
is duplicate.

 Original Message
Subject:Spooling attrs takes forever
Date: Mon, 11 Nov 2013 08:30:59 -0800
From: Charles Douglass
To: bacula-users@lists.sourceforge.net

I am running :
Linux Mint 15 (based on Ubuntu 13.04)
Bacula "Version: 5.2.6 (21 February 2012)"
MySQL version "14.14 Distrib 5.5.32, for debian-linux-gnu (x86_64) using
readline 6.2"

It's a network installation with several clients.

When it does a full backup of one client (also running Mint 15) of
around 40G it gets stuck on the "Sending spooled attrs to the Director.
Despooling 151,437,267 bytes ...". This one step takes over eight hours
to complete. For instance it started at 03:10 my time today and it's
now 08:20 and it's still running.

There is no recent mention of this problem that I could find. One
suggestion from 2012 was to reinitialize the DB so I did that, with no
change to the problem.

Job 1, which is a local backup of about 20G shows this on the console:
11-Nov 00:35 maple-sd JobId 1: Sending spooled attrs to the Director.
Despooling 9,801,461 bytes ...
11-Nov 01:11 maple-dir JobId 1: Bacula maple-dir 5.2.6 (21Feb12):

Which seems long, but is way faster than Job 2.

[Bacula-users] Director console connection failures after upgrading from squeeze to wheezy (5.0->5.2)

2013-11-12 Thread Marcello Romani
Hi,
I have recently upgraded my bacula box to debian wheezy. Bacula got
upgraded to 5.2.6 (previous version was 5.0.2 IIRC).
I started to get messages like the following one every minute:

bacula-dir: ERROR in authenticate.c:415 Unable to authenticate console
"*UserAgent*" at client:

During the upgrade of the bacula package a warning came up stating that
the previous director password had been changed to a more secure one.

bconsole wouldn't connect anymore because of this. Just had to change
the password in /etc/bconsole.conf and I could connect to the director
again via bconsole.
But the weird messages continued to appear.

Turned out the culprit was a bacula-web alternative called "almir",
which I had installed almost one year before, that was still using the
pre-update bconsole password, thus being unable to authenticate itself.
After updating that password the messages stopped.

Lesson learned: after changing bacula-dir password, remember to check
the configuration of every third-party software that connects to it :-P

I took me some time to figure this out, so I'm posting this in the hope
it will be of some help to anybody stumbling upon a similar issue in the
future.

What is the size of this file? :)

4398046510080 ~= 4294967295kB ~= 4194304MB ~= 4096GB ~= 4TB
I think it is a big sparse file (blocks=40).

I do not see any problem here. Bacula tries to backup a 4TB file. I bet it

You should enable sparse file handling in FileSet resource definition for
this file. It should resolve (partially) your problem.

[Bacula-users] bare metal in 5.0.2

2013-11-12 Thread Liam Price
Dear List.

I have recently started a new job where they currently have bacula 5.0.2
installed. It seems like the backups here have never been tested. So of
course, I want to do that.

In terms of bare metal, does bacula support it with this version? If
not, what are your solutions for bare metal using bacula? would I need
to build a base system first, add the file daemon to that client then
restore files from there?

I have had a good read through the documentation for bacula, but I'm
still finding it a bit difficult to understand.

Thanks in advance.

from now.

This version include several bug fixes and some interesting new
features, I'd suggest to all users using a previous version of
Bacula-Web to upgrade to the latest version.

If you want to know more about this new version ?
Go to http://www.bacula-web.org/news.html

Hi,

Thank you for bacula-web. Would like to request a feature: when untaring
the package it unpacks everything on current path instead of creating a
"bacula-web-6.0.0" folder. This is annoying.

Best regards.

Since you want to be able to restore files using the additional server,
I'd suggest rsync run after the backups to copy just the changed data.
Make sure that the catalogue is included in the backups.

Also, install bacula on the additional server to verify that you can
actually restore files.

[Bacula-users] Offsite Backup

2013-11-12 Thread Willi Fehler
Hello,

we want to copy the data of our main Bacula-Server to a addiontal Server
outside of our main datacenter in case the datacenter is down and we
still want to able to restore files.

Both Servers are running Debian 6.0 and MySQL as . At the moment Bacula
is only installed on the Server inside our datacenter. Which
possibilities do I have?

Use rsync to keep the files in /etc/bacula/ and my backup directory
up2date and create a mysqldump and restore it every night on the offsite
backup server?

Regards - Willi

Kern,

thank you for your quick response.

I did the restore twice with exactly the same numbers in the error message. As
the autochanger is a disk based changer, the "drives" are virtual (symbolic

I tried to read the tapes using bscan, but it crashes with a segmentation fault
