You can start, stop and restart any required daemon (Bacula Dir/SD/FD and
ibadstatd) directly from IBAdmin using systemd and sudo. Additionally with
systemd you can display daemon logs directly in IBAdmin.

IBAdmin does not create any config file at all. It dynamically generates
them on request. For bacula-fd.conf you can simply download it directly
from IBAdmin.

Can you elaborate upon the systemd requirement please?

I see: "Without systemd you can't manage system daemons and its logs directly
from application and this part of ibadmin won't work"

By manage, what do you mean? Stop, start, etc? What does IBAdmin do with the
logs?

Does IBAdmin work with a readonly connection to the Catalog database?

When a new client is created, does IBAdmin create the bacula-fd.conf file?

Thank you.

The client version must be =< than the Director.
If this version doesn't suit you there are several others on bacula.org.

No I don't think so. As far as I remember the .bvfs_xxx commands are
actually only there to help GUIs interact with the server - I think they
are not meant to be widely used.

It is actually the case that whenever bat (at least my version 7.4.1 here)
is called and you select any job in brestore, it sets hascache=1 for the
respective job (and seemingly some more). Originally I thought the
occasionally crashing bat left those behind, but even if bat is closed
regularly it never clears up the hascache, which I think it should.

I have no idea what consequences it would have to ignore hascache for the
pruning of orphaned paths, but I suspect, that behaviour is there for a
reason. I only made sure, that bat was not running when I used
.bvfs_clear_cache.

Hello Petar,

I have a rather extensive script to not only do a restore like you ask,
but it can also automatically run all of the verifies jobs too..

I am currently in Switzerland at a company meeting, but when I get back
to my office next week, I can forward you this script...

And, now that I think about it, I will probably also post it to my
website with the rest of the Bacula-related scripts I have posted. :)

http://www.revpol.com/bacula has some other things that might be useful...

Please ping me next week if I forget to post it.

Best regards,

Bill

[Bacula-users] Automation restore backup job

2019-01-23 Thread Petar Kozic
Hi folks,
I try to find some solution on the internet but I found only parcial
solution.
I want to hear from you what you think about automation restore backup for
test purpose.

Indeed, I have about 25 linux instance which I backuping on my bacula
server. My configuration files was splitted for every client in particular.
By, default every backup job for client have also defined restore job on
same client.

I want to create one test linux instance where I can randomly to start some
restore from bacula to test instance to check does backup is ok.
I will automate all other staff as start of test and check restore with
some app as Jenkins or Ansible etc…

I need solution on which way I can make some automation job for restore
randomly client on my test instance, is that possible from bash and how, or
maybe from mysql query and how etc...

Thank’s in advanced.

You could always compile from source, if you have an unusual hardware
platform.
