Re: [Bacula-users] backup fail with "Fatal error: backup.c:873 Network send error to SD. ERR=Broken pipe"
1) Be sure that the messages resource on the SD is setup to report errors back to the DIR. You should get them via e-mail/console then 2) Be sure to run "btape test" (see manual) to ensure that your drive/media combination is correct 3) Run the SD with foreground+debugging information 4) Try setting up virtual-tape File storage resources on the SD to verify that it is not a network issue. ~BAS Thu, 2007-07-19 at 10:50 -0400, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > hi all, > > now started same job with new tape, its still running so i have to > cancel it, still i notice "SD Files Written: 0" > when i saw status of storage it shows data shown in "FD bytes written:" > field, i am not sure what happening. > > > > 18-Jul 18:19 backup-dir: Start Backup JobId 14, > Job=server-backup.2007-07-18_18.19.05 > 18-Jul 18:19 backup-sd: Wrote label to prelabeled Volume "server-c" on > device "DLTDrive" (/dev/st0) > 19-Jul 19:48 server-fd: server-backup.2007-07-18_18.19.05 Fatal error: > backup.c:873 Network send error to SD. Re: [Bacula-users] Bacula doesnt recycle and/or hangs
Once the file-volume has been purged/pruned/recycled, the next job that uses it theoretically opens it for write/overwrite at 0-byte descriptor. Its just a PITA waiting for that -- of course if it was a real tape, it would have to "mt erase" the volume, but for virtual tape files, a feature to zero the file at purge/expire would be nice. ~BAS ~BAS On Fri, 2007-06-29 at 15:11 -0700, Optik Overdose wrote: > Oh whoops I overlooked that, that was dumb. [Bacula-users] Multiple Options {} in Fileset - Order of Evaluation
Per the doc excerpt below, I read this to mean: "First Matching Rule Stops Further Evaluation". Then, per the example below the except below regarding: [...snip...] wildfile = "*.Z" wildfile = "*.gz" Options { Exclude = yes RegexFile = ".*" } File = /myfile [...snip...] Then the note says: "...It does not match directory names, so all directories in /myfile will be backed up (the directory entry) and any *.Z and *.gz files contained in themBacking up a directory entries is not very expensive." --- My question is: Is this still the best approach? The idea of loading my Files and Directories tables seems "expensive" to me, but then again, we're talking about backups. Any ideas on another approach to "Exclude all Files and Directories except this Regex/WildDir" ? ~BAS "Multiple Options resources may be specified one after another. As the files are found in the specified directories, the Options will applied to the filenames to determine if and how the file should be backed up. The wildcard and regular expression pattern matching parts of the Options resources are checked in the order they are specified in the FileSet until the first one that matches. Once one matches, the compression and other flags within the Options specification will apply to the pattern matched. Once Bacula determines that the Options resource matches the file under consideration, that file will be saved without looking at any other Options resources that may be present. This means that any wild cards must appear before an Options resource without wild cards. However, one additional point is that in the case that no match was found, Bacula will use the options found in the last Options resource. As a consequence, if you want a particular set of "default" options, you should put them in an Options resource after any other Options. - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Between the OS Revision, the CPU, and the XCode revision, there are about 10 permutations of binaries which need to be provided. Maybe trade in the iPod for a recent version of GCC? The binaries (bacula-fd) manually extracted from the tarballs run just fine w/o boostraping all of pkgsrc. Of course, I find OS/X to be kind of boring w/o useful software (like, say, Bacula >:}) All you need is to put them in /usr/{pkg,local}/sbin/ and register with the previously provided org.bacula.bacula-fd.plist file. ~BAS - SF.Net email is sponsored by: The Future of Linux Business White Paper from Novell. Something to think about before patronizing Apple next time. :) Pkgsrc has been out there for a decade as the portable package management system -- it runs a dozen platforms (CPU/Arch/Vendor) combinations. It makes esoteric deprecated POSIX systems functional. If Apple keeps-on like they are(*), they'll be in that list eventually. When Fink and Darwinports and OS/X have shuffled off, Pkgsrc will still be around breathing life into IRIX, AIX, H-FUX and SunOS boxes. ~BAS (*). Making sure that the Pkgsrc package maintainer merged my patches in, etc. Plus there's the need to enumerate (on the Bacula pages/docs) the XCode version conflicts. I guess maybe I was just so happy to be done with it once I met my own needs. The whole thing left an extremely bitter taste in my mouth. As for Apple -- I've just been thinking about the "Business Process" aspect of things a lot more as I stumble my way through my BBA. Apple makes a LOT of silly decisions that aren't sustainable practices: * Pkgsrc was already out there, they could have Integrated (which would help the community as a whole). * Bacula is a framework for an enterprise backup system, but Apple ignores it entirely. ~BAS ("I'M _NOT_ BITTER!") - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
