[Bacula-users] Fatal error on catalogue backup
hi all Can someone who knows please advise if this is an issue with my database, my tape server, the tape machine, or the tape? The director machine (this machine) died (power failure) without being shut down properly. Tape server is HP, as is tape drive. Tape was out of drive, and I shut down tape machine and tape server manually (via power buttons) before UPS expired. I've tried a few times, including restarting MariaDB and the tape machine. Google search showed other people with similar issue, but few years ago. Hi all Lately I've been getting errors like Could not stat "/mnt/nas1stuff/": ERR=Host is down where I'm trying to back up files from a NAS box (FreeNAS), and the target folder is mounted on this box, as was recommended to me on this list. So the folder does not get backed up. If I run the job manually then it works. Other succeeding jobs run right after the failed one work okay. Oddly enough I tried from the command line and results were puzzling: ~ $ ls /home/ian/nas1stuff/ ls: cannot access '/home/ian/nas1stuff/': Host is down ~ $ cd ~ $ cd /home/ian/nas1stuff/ ~/nas1stuff $ ls /home/ian/nas1stuff/ and that worked... so why would I get a Host is down message? So now trying to determine where the problem is... 1. Bacula ? 2. FreeNAS ? 3. something on my system doing the SMB stuff ? Something else? I don't know if it is related but lately I've noticed a lot of up/down traffic between this box and the three NAS boxes... even when I'm not actually doing anything on the NAS boxes. Am just worried it's some malware encrypting my drives. This box is Linux, the three NAS boxes are FreeNAS (== FreeBSD based). Any ideas as to where to look to solve the issue gratefully received. [Bacula-users] BLOCKED waiting for media
Hi All Compliments of the season and all that. Year is off to a rocky start. :-) Was doing a full backup, around 3.5 to 4 TB so takes a while. PC running Director decided to lock up for some reason (possibly related to new CPU fan). Now the job that WAS running (and all ones after it) are Error. However tape director is stuck and won't let me do anything. The tape that it wants is in the drive. It's the one it was writing to. Device status: Device tape is "LTO-6" (/dev/nst0) waiting for: Volume: NASFull-0016 Pool:NASFullPool Media type: LTO-6 Device is BLOCKED waiting for media. Total Bytes Read=64,512 Blocks Read=1 Bytes/block=64,512 Positioned at File=0 Block=0 == Used Volume status: Reserved volume: NASFull-0016 on tape device "LTO-6" (/dev/nst0) Reader=0 writers=1 reserves=0 volinuse=0 Data spooling: 1 active jobs, 4,058,134,331 bytes; 1868 total jobs, 50,000,034,684 max bytes/job. Attr spooling: 1 active jobs, 0 bytes; 1935 total jobs, 151,992,356 max bytes. I've tried mounting/unmounting/resume/restart etc in loops and combinations, and Google is being spectacularly unhelpful, so now I need to ask the experts... how do I get Bacula to either resume the backup (which is apparently not yet possible in non-pro version) or at least stop what it's doing and do what I tell it to do? Should I just restart the PC running the tape machine? Tried rebooting this PC (Director + database + also a FD) but does not help. Arruda wrote: > If you run a differential after a full, then an incremental, but the > differential one hadn't finished before the incremental one starts, then > the incremental would check the last full one. So you will have both > differential and incremental identical. thanks. But still not sure that's entirely correct. I rebuilt a NAS. I had full backup of original. After rebuilding, paths were slightly different, or at least the file times were, so when I re-allowed daily incrementals it effectively did a full backup. Now, about a month later, it did a differential, again effectively a full backup. While differential was running, two daily incrementals were scheduled. I draw a distinction between 'scheduled' and 'started', I'm not sure if you have the same difference in your usage. Anyway it ran two incrementals, both of which backed up the same data (as per files and filesize in log). Both started hours after the differential was finished, and the second over an hour after the first finished, with other jobs inbetween. My point is that the first incremental was done correctly, the second was an unnecessary duplication, because (it appears to me), it decided too soon what needs to be backed up. Alf said I need to look at the 'duplicate jobs' setting, but that sounds like a work-around rather than addressing the core issue, ie when does Bacula decide what needs to be backed up... when scheduled or when run. The second may be an exact duplicate when scheduled, but the data may have changed by run time. [Bacula-users] Unnecessarily duplicating backups
Hi All It seems to me that Bacula makes unnecessary duplicate backups. I have 1. Daily incremental 2. Monthly differential 3. Annual full. However one of the backups is over 3.5 TB, and the system only manages about 100GB/hour. So the differential backup (in this case) ran for more than 24 hours. I also had a others in the queue that pushed the time to when it could get to the daily incremental to over 2 days later. So... 1. Bacula did the differential, starting on Saturday. 2. today it did an incremental, for stuff added since Saturday. 3. it then did exactly the same files as in (2) again. I was watching. I'm assuming this is because Bacula decides WHAT to back up at the time the job is scheduled, instead of when it is actually run. Is that correct, or is something else wrong? thanks, Ian -- i...@zti.co.za http://www.zti.co.za Zero 2 Infinity - The net.works Phone +27-21-975-7273 -- What NetFlow Analyzer can do for you? Will implement your suggestions, thanks. > You don’t mention which version of Bacula that you are using. Also was trying to back up a site on the net running CentOS 6, which had it's own issues. Eventually gave up, could not get the remote FD and local SD to talk to each other, I think the problem is somewhere between my firewall (IPFire) and the SD (CentOS 7 on HP server). So now I rsync remote to here and backup from here. Initial rsync took 20 hours so it's probably better that way.
