[Bacula-users] DHCP client

2007-04-25 Thread Naufal Sheikh

Hi everyone,

Can any one please give me insight into the direction which I should follow
for configuring a DHCP client for backup. Manual only has a couple of liner
section which does not explain much.

Thanks and Regards

Re: [Bacula-users] DHCP client

2007-04-26 Thread Naufal Sheikh

Hey,

I do not have the control over the DNS server for either my windows machine
or the Unix Server. My Unix server which is also the bacula dir server
cannot ping my windows client by host name, and again I do not have the
control over the DNS server. So I guess I am left with the third option.
Can you please give me some insight into setting up restrivcted console.
There is also nothing much about it in the manual. Or if you can pelse just
send me the link.

Thanks

I see three possible solutions.

One, set up your dhcp server to assigne the same addresses to the
machines. This is, as long as the dhcp address pools are not exhausted,
the default behaviour of the isc dhcpd, by he way. Other services do
also profit from the resulting semi-static addresses.

Two, use dynamic DNS updates with dhcp, so that the machines might have
changing IP addresses, but the DNS names remain the same. Then, use the
FQDN in Baculas configuration.

Three, set up a restricted console on the dynamic addressed clients and
use the setip facility before you run backups (or set up the startup
scripts or the dhcp client on the machines to initiate a setip when the
address changes).

The solutions are given in order of my personal preference, by the way.

Looks like that...

Hmm... I usually have the development manual version open, and the link
to the section you'll want to read is

http://www.bacula.org/dev-manual/FileSet_Resource.html#SECTION001511

Look at the third console type.

The name of the consle would be something like whatever-fd, if you
followed the usual naming conventions, and it would need a 'CommandACL =
setip' (or more commands).

A script to call that command from the client would look like 'echo
setip | bconsole -c ...' on unix, and probably something like

bconsole -c ... < C:\path\to\file

where the file would simply contain the command setip. Of course I have
not tested this on windows, and I'm much less fluent in windows command
languange han, for example, in bash :-)

[Bacula-users] Pausing a running job.

2007-04-30 Thread Naufal Sheikh

Hi

Is there any way to pause a job which is running and then restart it from
where it was paused without effecting anything. I am asking the question
because I am anticipating a situation where I might need to use the loader
for other purposes in between the time when a job is running.

[Bacula-users] behavior in case of errors

2007-05-14 Thread Naufal Sheikh

Hi,

i was running bacula and then went on vacations. In the meantime due to some
error which required human intervention, bacula just got stuck on that job
and please correct me if I am wrong bacula does not carry on to next jobs if
it get stuck in case of any error. when I do "list jobs" it shows me lot of
jobs which haven't been started but are there in the list. Should I just
cancel them to start the bacula at the point of today's schedule? I believe
otherwise it will first attempt to complete all the jobs which had been
pending for the past one week first before moving on. This kind of behaviour
does not make sense, is there anything I am missing? If some one can please
help.

Re: [Bacula-users] behavior in case of errors

2007-05-15 Thread Naufal Sheikh

Hey,

thanks for your help. Just few clarifications. For the "Max Wait Time", the
time specified is in min or sec? Or can I just write 25 min or 300 sec.
Secondly if i want this to be global parameter for all the jobs, I should be
mentioning it in the jobdefs right?

Thanks

Depends... the above is one good reason for allowing multiple concurrent
jobs, and there are configuration directives to limit the time a job can
wait and run before it's automatically cancelled.

All three options might be useful in your situation.

That depends on what you want, but it's definitely an option.

Correct, unless configured otherwise.

In the manual, chapter "Configuring the Director", look at the job
resources. You'll find some "Max something Delay" and "Max something
Time" directives. These probably are what you need for the future.

Re: [Bacula-users] behavior in case of errors

2007-05-17 Thread Naufal Sheikh

Hi Arno,

I added the "Max Wait Time = 900" in the jobDefs section of the firector
file. But last night again due to some error bacula got stuck on the firsdt
client and never moved on. I have a complex backup infrastructure, and i
really want that if one client cannot be backed up regardless of whatever
the error is, bacula should move to the next client. I hope I am not missing
out something.

Thanks and Regards

Hmm. I'm unsure... there was some problem with these times a while ago
where it didn't honor the time units, but also didn't abort with an
error when parsing the configuration. I think this as been fixed, though.

I'm using, for example, "Max Start Delay = 23h" and this works as
expected.

If unsure, simply don't use a qualifier like 'hours' and Bacula will
interpret your numbers as seonds.

So, '300' should be identical to '5 min'.

Yes.

[Bacula-users] how to mark the vol status FULL

2007-05-22 Thread Naufal Sheikh

Hi,

How can I make bacula to mark the status of the volume full, ( so that it
can be recycled) after the job.

One tape contains the full backup of about 12 desktops, and in the case i
was thinking about using the parameter " Maximum volume Jobs" = 12, but I
was wondering if there is any better solution to it.

[Bacula-users] Deleteing records from catalog

2007-05-25 Thread Naufal Sheikh

Hi,

How can we delete a certain record from the catalog? I have this volume
record in a catalog which I have purged, and tried to relabel it as well,
but the record still shows that volume and when i try to label another tape
with the same name, bacula says that it cannot do it because there is a
volume with that name. I wish to delete that entry from the catalog
permenantly so that bacula does not have any record whatsoever of that
volume.

[Bacula-users] Incremental backup upgrades to full when another filesystem is added in a file set

2007-06-28 Thread Naufal Sheikh

Hi All,

I know that incremental backup upgrades to full backup, if another file
system is added to a file set. The disadvantage of the scheme being, that I
will have to take a full backup before schedule which disrupts other backup
schedules. Is there anyway to avoid this and let bacula take the incremental
like ufsdump where it will just backup the additional added disk?

My bacula version is 1.38.5 running on solaris 8.

Did you restart/reload the Bacula daemons? I'm not sure which daemon
this change takes effect in (I'm assuming director, but if it isn't, it
needs a full restart).

What do you see when it gets upgraded anyway?

Re: [Bacula-users] Incremental backup upgrades to full when another filesystem is added in a file set

2007-06-29 Thread Naufal Sheikh

Hey,

Sorry for not reading the archive first, but the change which has been
suggested is still not working for me, and I am not sure why. Here is my
file set:

FileSet {
 Name = "tracfire-fileset"
 Ignore FileSet Changes = "yes"
 Include {
   Options {
 signature = MD5
   }
   File = /
   File = /usr
   File = /var
   File = /main
   File = /fvol1
   File = /fvol2
   File = /fvol3
   File = /fvol4
   File = /fvol5
   File = /fvol6
   File = /fvol7
   File = /fvol8
   File = /fvol9
   File = /fvol10
   File = /fvol11
   File = /fvol12
   File = /fvol13
   File = /fvol14
   File = /fvol15
 }
 Exclude {
   File = /proc
   File = /tmp
   File = /.journal
   File = /.fsck
 }
}

/fvol 15 is the new file system which I added. testconf does not give any
error.

Thanks and Regards
