[Bacula-users] Schedule : First day of month
Hi all, I'm searching how make a schedule for "the first day of january", the first day of feb-jun", "the first day of jul", the first day of aug-dec". The syntaxe I used doesn't work : "jan 1st at 00:00am" Do you know what's the good one ? Thanks -- Nicolas http://www.shivaserv.fr -- For Developers, A Lot Can Happen In A Second. [Bacula-users] Pool/Job File retention : question :)
Hi all, I create a pool, and 3 jobs which works on that pool (a full, base and incremental job). My question is : How make file retention and job retention differents for the 3 jobs, but on the same pool ? I see I can give file retention parameter on pool, but not on jobs. Can I do that ? I wasn't subscribed a few weeks ago which should explain my lack of reaction :-) I'm missing three features in Bacula: 1. the ability to have long term snapshot; 2. the ability to backup file differential (rsync type); 3. the ability to include/exclude file based on arbitrary metadata criterium e.g. filesize. Point 3 can be addressed by overloading the use of the nodump flag, but it's a hack (for which I don't see too much drawback at first). Point 2 is very handy when facing application like Mozilla Thunderbird which stores email in a mbox file. Point 1 is also obviously needed when you want to have months or years of retention with a limited amount of storage. My understanding of the whole is that the needs I have are more or less dictated by my use of disk based media when facing a few hundred clients to backup. The client being numerous are considered "wild" so I need a way to enforce my policy (point 3). Unfortunately (or fortunately) Bacula is the only game in town if you want to have a sql backend which is quite more sane than using/abusing the filesystem. So I'd like to end what I've to admit is a rant by forcefully approving the request made by Gavin. Nicolas -- Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. Re: [Bacula-users] How could I exlude files greater than a specific filesize from a backup?

I didn't test it, but I've infered from the doc (2.4): "Any change to the list of the included files will cause Bacula to automatically create a new FileSet (defined by the name and an MD5 checksum of the Include/Exclude contents). Each time a new FileSet is created, Bacula will ensure that the next backup is always a Full save." that your proposed solution shall trigger a full save, which may not be what's wanted I'll be very happy to learn that I'm wrong because it's one of the issues that nags me in Bacula. That's what I've been testing with and this works here. I use the label command here, and it works. I think your are not using correctly the new dvd-handler scripts (That's not your fault as the default bacula-sd.conf is wrong, and the documentation has not been updated yet). You should have these lines in bacula-sd.conf: WritePartCommand = "/etc/bacula/dvd-handler %a write %e %v" FreeSpaceCommand = "/etc/bacula/dvd-handler %a free" Note the new dvd-handler script requires a patched version of dvd +rw-tools. I had similar problems with wxGTK 2.4, please try to run wx-console with this command: # LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 wx-console or build it against wxGTK 2.6. Re: [Bacula-users] Problems with WX-Console
Hello Mike, Thanks for the report, it is a known bug of version 1.36.3 (see http://bugs.bacula.org/bug_view_advanced_page.php?bug_id=304 ). Unfortunately there was no 1.36.4 version so this patch was not included in the latest 1.36 stable version. What you can do is either run restore from the console, either build and install wx-console from the latest 1.37 version (I think wx-console 1.37 is compatible with the 1.36 director). [Bacula-users] Speed of concurrent jobs
Hi, I'm running Bacula 1.36.3, in a mutli-OS environment. - The director is running on a Fedora Core 2 Machine. - The Storage daemon is on the same machine, and stores to HD files, in different directories (different "storage" and "Pool") of a 1.1T software RAID5 volume (/dev/md0). The volume is made of 5 SATA drives of 300G each. - I have a client on a Win2k server with about 160G of data, and another one on an Xserve (OSx) machine with about 300G of data, plus two other servers with smaller capacities. All three machines are connected on a dedicated 1Gbps network, thus carrying no other traffic than bacula's. I tried to backup sequentially the two machines, and the rate was about 6.3MB/sec for the win2k, and about 6.5MB/sec for the OSx machine. It took thus +/- 7 hours to full-backup the win2k server, and then +/-13.5 hours to full-backup the OSx server, thus a total of 20.5 hours Then I made the two jobs concurrent, and the rates dropped to 2.3MB/s for the win2k, and 3.6MB/sec for the OSx. It took then +/- 19 hours to full-backup the win2k server, and at the same time +/-23.5 hours to full-backup the OSx server. Does anybody have an idea on why thes rates a so bad when running concurrent ? It thus seems the total bandwidth tops around 6MB/s... (2.3MB/s + 3.6MB/s) - A 1Gbps network should max at 100MBytes / s, even with a lot of network / software overhead , it is still much higher no ? - A Sata drive is 150MB/s, not counting the RAID, again, even with all software losses, it is still much higher... I have separate "storage" ressources, pointing to different "device" ressources, with different "pools". Shall I use different Storage Daemons to increase this bandwidth ? What if they are on the same machine ? Any suggestions / advices / experiences would be very appreciated ! PS: Besides this small performance/ tuning issue, I'd like to point out Bacula is really powerfull, very versatile and open. It competes without problems with big commercial solutions (actually I switched from one of them to Bacula, simply because I wanted good multi-OS support). Keep on going guys, this is good soft !! [Bacula-users] Oh yeah, it works.
We've been using bacula for several months to backup a few terabytes to Super AIT-1. We just upgraded our backup server to actually be able to keep up with the data rates the drives support so I figure now is a good time to actually mention that, yes, it does work with this Qualstar monstrosity. The changer is a Qualstar 5466 with two Sony SDZ-100 Super AIT-1 drives and 66 slots and a bar code reader attached via SCSI. Everything works out of the box with Linux 2.4 & 2.6 using the standard SCSI tape drivers. The only trouble I've had using it with Bacula is that I initially set it to use 512k blocks and there was a hidden "sanity" limit of 500k in the SD that caused it to barf when trying to read the tapes for restores. I patched my local version to move the limit to 512k and all is happy. Somebody should probably add this to the known-good configuration lists. I'm using PostgreSQL for the catalog after trying sqlite and mysql, both of which seemed to get really bogged down as the catalog grew to it's current ridiculous proportions of 5.3G Below is the report of the latest job run on the new Dual Opteron backup server running Debian/sid amd64 (64bit mode). The File Daemon on the client was the limiting factor on the speed, but it was clearing 30M/s of network traffic for sustained periods. At that data rate the backup server still had some room to push more data. I'll try running a simultaneous dump to both drives this weekend and see now it holds up Thanks for the great product. - Nick Lopez [EMAIL PROTECTED] JobId: 8181 Job:Narvi-home-offsite.2005-06-15_23.07.32 Backup Level: Full Client: Narvi-fd FileSet:"OffsiteHome" 2005-01-11 16:07:58 Pool: "Narvi" Storage:"Q5466-2" Start time: 15-Jun-2005 23:07:34 End time: 16-Jun-2005 12:10:31 FD Files Written: 244,214 SD Files Written: 244,214 FD Bytes Written: 1,137,848,209,144 SD Bytes Written: 1,137,888,611,339 Rate: 24221.4 KB/s Software Compression: None Volume name(s): A00019S1|A00010S1 Volume Session Id: 6 Volume Session Time:1118898584 Last Volume Bytes: 529,899,033,071 Non-fatal FD errors:0 SD Errors: 0 FD termination status: OK SD termination status: OK Termination:Backup OK --- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Discover Easy Linux Migration Strategies from IBM.
