Re: [Bacula-users] Bscan over encrypted tape

2012-04-12 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hi,

just concluding my question. Yes! It's possible run a bscan over a
encrypted tape and recreate the Catalog for it, even if you don't have the
keys. Of Course, to do a restore you'll need such keys.

See ya!

[Bacula-users] Bscan over encrypted tape

2012-03-21 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hi Users...

Before I try do that I would ask you if it works run a "bscan" directly
over a tape with an encrypted backup by Bacula. Would be recreated the
Catalog for that tape, assuming I don't have the bootstrap file anymore?

Thanks.

I'm sorry. Yeah, I changed manually after Bacula recycle it and try use it
to the Job. So I purged the correct volume FW4-001 and update FW2-001 to
"Used" again.

[Bacula-users] Recycle Problems

2011-09-26 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hello Users,

I've experienced some strange problems with the "Recycling" on my Bacula.
For example, I have a pool to my Full Backups where I have one different
tape for each weekend in the month. Well, on the second week I've used
FW2-001 with Volume Retention of 27 days = 2332800 seconds and at this
weekend (4th week) I've put the FW4-001 and Bacula Recycled FW2-001 even
with your VolRetention not expired. My file and job retention are greater
than volume retention as on the Pool as the Client Resource.

+-++---+-+--+--+--+-+--+---+---+-+
| MediaId | VolumeName | VolStatus | Enabled | VolBytes | VolFiles |
VolRetention | Recycle | Slot | InChanger | MediaType | LastWritten
|
+-++---+-+--+--+--+-+--+---+---+-+

6   | FW2-001| Used  | 1| 1
| 0| 2332800  | 1   | 0| 0   |
LTO-4 | 2011-09-12 09:10:13

In the Official Documentation it says the following:

"Prune volumes applying Volume retention period (Volumes with VolStatus
Full, Used, or Append are pruned). Note, even if all the File and Job
records are pruned from a Volume, the Volume will not be marked Purged until
the Volume retention period expires. "

So...Bacula couldn't do such thing with my volume FW2-001 so that it wasn't
expired.

For assurance, I've updated "All Volumes from All Pools" today after
checking the conf files. But I've done this before and I'm still with
problems. I've set up a scheme where I just have to change tapes without
none intervention via console, but with such problems, I'm having to do
Bacula chose the right tapes manually.

Everything was working perfectly until my tape FW5-001 to expire and Bacula
to try use it instead the FW2-001, because FW5-001 is for the 5th week on
the month and not all months have the 5th week, so I should have disabled it
after the job, but I didn't notice in time. Being this volume older than
FW2-001 and Expired obviously, Bacula chose it. So I've tried a Bscan on the
FW5-001 to recreate the Catalog (more because I wanted to test the Bscan)
and after that the things started to goes wrong.

Some ideas for this problem? I know this is a "little bit" confused :)

Thanks.

Re: [Bacula-users] retentions

2011-08-31 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hey Hymie...

Job Retention is just for clean up the catalog from old jobs. What make a
Volume Recyclable is the Volume Retention after the volume turns on Full or
Used. I set up my File and Job Retention always longer than my Volume
Retention because when it finish and turns on Purged, the job entries on the
catalog are deleted too.

[Bacula-users] Hint: Include Confs

2011-08-26 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hi Everyone...

I'm reading a book about Bacula and I found a hint that could be very useful
to many users here.

Instead you declare all your resources inside the same .conf
(bacula-dir.conf) you might separate them on many files. So, you just need
declare them in your bacula-dir.conf like this way:

@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-catalogs.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-messages.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-clients.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-consoles.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-pools.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-filesets.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-schedules.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-jobs.conf
@/etc/bacula/bacula-dir-storages.conf

This allow a better organization of your confs.

That's it Man!

I hope that this be useful to someone... :)

I use encryption with Windows 7 and it works perfectly. But I put my PKI
configuration into the FileDeamon { } directive instead the Director { }
directive. Also, I didn't need to install OpenSSL separately, I just
installed the Bacula Client 5.0.3 for windows.

FileDaemon {# this is me
Name = test-nb
FDport = 9102# where we listen for the director
WorkingDirectory = "C:\\Program Files\\Bacula\\working"
Pid Directory = "C:\\Program Files\\Bacula\\working"
Plugin Directory = "C:\\Program Files\\Bacula\\plugins"
Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 2
PKI Signatures = Yes# Enable Data Signing
PKI Encryption = Yes# Enable Data Encryption
PKI Keypair = "C:\\Program Files\\Bacula\\keys\\master.keypair"
PKI Master Key = "C:\\Program Files\\Bacula\\keys\\master.cert"

[Bacula-users] Performance

2011-07-25 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hello Guys...

This weekend I did a backup with a size of 41.92 GB that took 1 hour and 24
minutes with a rate of 8.27 MB/s.

My Bacula Server is installed in a IBM server connected in a Tape Drive LTO4
(120 MB/s) via SAS connection (3 Gb/s).

I'm using Encryption and Compression Gzip6.

I think that this rate (8.27 MB/s) is too much slow for such configuration.

I'd like to know how much rate you are getting using Encryption and
Compression and what I suppose to do to increase the Bacula's performance.

Thanks

Rickifer Barros.

[Bacula-users] Less intervention as Possible.

2011-07-20 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hello one more time...

I'm trying to configure my Bacula so that I don't have to mount and umount
manually the tapes after the jobs but I'm not getting this...

My Backup Scheme is like that:

tue-fri - Differentialls in the same tape
sat - Full in another tape

Also I have 2 daily jobs: Backup Files and Backup Catalog.

So I want to Backup tue-thu without ejecting the tape. At Friday it must to
be ejected as well as Saturday.

I've tried to configure my Storage like that:

Device {
  Name = LTO-4
  Media Type = LTO-4
  Archive Device = /dev/nst0
  AutomaticMount = no;
  AlwaysOpen = yes;
  RemovableMedia = yes;
  RandomAccess = no;
  Maximum File Size = 5GB
  Volume Poll Interval = 1 minutes
  Close on Poll = yes
  Offline on Unmount = yes
}

So, according my Pool settings, after 4 Differential jobs the tape is
changed to "Used" status but the Poll don't Close it anyway to make it
Offline.
If I set "AlwaysOpen = no" it is ejected but soon after the Backup Files
Job, so the Backup Catalog Job runs out of tape.
Is it possible send a unmount command after specific jobs? Therefore I could
set up my Backup Catalog Jobs to umount the tape at Fridays and
Saturdaysso the "Offline on Umount" directive would eject the tape.

Thanks in advance.

[Bacula-users] All Pruned Jobs don't make the Volume Used/Purged

2011-07-15 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hello Users...

Just to confirm one little thing...I've read that Bacula will try keep your
data as maximum as possible before overwrite them. So, even when my Volume
Retention Time is expired after the last job, the volume don't become Used
or Purge, but it still Append. Thereby, for example, in a backup scheme
where I use one Tape to do 4 differential backups Mon-Thu with a retention
time of 7 days, I need to set the Maximum Volume Jobs to "4" and the Volume
Retention to "7 days". So, after 4 Jobs, the volume status is changed to
"Used" and after 7 days it can be Recycled.
There's some way to make this using just the Volume Retention or I'm forced
to use "Maximun Volume Jobs" together?

Thanks

A bad backup is the same that none backup. Verifying is very important,
nevertheless, is not 100% safe. The only and almost impracticable way would
be often make disaster recovery simulations.

Re: [Bacula-users] Verify Catalog

2011-05-31 Thread Rickifer Barros
Yes John...

Now, I think that I understood perfectly and I have tested it too.

VolumeToCatalog = Compares the files in a Storage Volume with the Catalog;

DiskToCatalog = Compares the files of the File Deamon's File Set with
the Catalog;

Catalog = Like the DiskToCatalog but for Catalogs that don't
must change because the files are usually system files, so, must be an
isolated Catalog and the Job with Level = InitCatalog must be run before the
proper Job with Level = Catalog , in order to clean it and receive the new
records.

Am I Right, now?

One detail is...I thought that in a VolumeToCatalog I could do the
verification even without the FD connection, because, in my example, the
Catalog and the Volume are in the same server machine, but, anyway, I needed
the FD. I know that, if my files were encrypted in the Volume, I would need
the FD to decryption, but, in this case, they weren't.

Anyway, my real question was solved, Thank you.

[Bacula-users] Fwd: Verify Catalog

2011-05-31 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hi John,

Well, I've tested like the way you said me and it worked.
I used the Level DiskToCatalog cause is a Backup in Disk, so, I've noticed
that it always do the "verify" with the last job written on the Catalog.
Thus, I couldn't check an older backup.

Another thing...in this test I got two .txt files with nothing write in
them, i.e, they were 0 KB. Bacula considered them, either with MD5 or SHA1,
like inconsistent files with those in the Catalog. When I wrote something in
them and redid the test, so, the verification was OK.

Thank you John, for your explanation.

Just one more question for nowit seems such obvious, but, the Level
VolumeToCatalog would be when I use Tapes? Is that right?

[Bacula-users] Verify Catalog

2011-05-31 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hello Bacula Users,

I'm trying to test the Verify Job but, how I could understand, I have to
create another catalog just for verifications, but I'm not getting do this.
I have installed Bacula on Debian through the aptitude with PostGre. Now I
dont know how create this catalog. I've tried create a db called "verify"
and configured the Director:

Catalog {
  Name = Verification
  dbname = verify; DB Address = ""; dbuser = "bacula"; dbpassword = "###"
}

...so, I cannot even connect at the Director via console.

What I need to do to use this Verify Job.

Another thing...this type of Job is just to verify a group of file that
don't must change often. But, how about backup consistency checking, bacula
do this implicitly or I need do additional settings for this.

Thanks in advance.

[Bacula-users] Bacula Verification

2011-05-30 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hi,

I'm reading about the verification File Set options so, how I could
understand, there are three modes: basejob (for Full Backups), accurate (for
Incr/Diff) and verify (for Catalog). Is that right? If it is, what options
are the best for a reliable verification and don't overhead the backup time.
Is it enough check only the md5 hash?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Bacula-users] Find Job's Volume

2011-05-16 Thread Rickifer Barros
Oh man...I didn't realize after the "done" Bacula showed what volumes are
needed. Interesting that when the restore is from a File Volume, it is
showed like offline, i.e, without the "*", but it works anyway.

=
$ done
Bootstrap records written to /var/lib/bacula/backupserver-dir.restore.3.bsr

The job will require the following
   Volume(s) Storage(s)SD Device(s)
===

volumeteste   BSDefault

Volumes marked with "*" are online.

=

Thank you Guys, this group is helping me a lot.

[Bacula-users] Find Job's Volume

2011-05-16 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hi Folks,

I have not found a way to check in wich volume is such job. If I have backed
up in many tapes and I want to know where is such job, i.e. what volume is
the job, then I could to pick up such tape and run the restore.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Bacula-users] Backup Progress

2011-05-12 Thread Rickifer Barros
Yes! This command "status client" works fine for what I wanted, but, I think
that it will be cool if Bacula calculate the estimated time based on these
information and show it with the command "status client".

Thank you everyone.

2011-05-12 Thread Rickifer Barros
Ok, but, I would like to see a estimated time for the end of the backup or
even the transfer rate, but, if there's no way, ok.

Thanks John.

[Bacula-users] Backup Progress

2011-05-12 Thread Rickifer Barros
Hello Bacula Users,

There's some way to see the progress of a Backup or Restore during your
execution? Because with the "status dir" command, I can just see the "backup
is running" and nothing more. I didn't found nothing in the Manual about
that too.

Thanks in advance.
