Same here - I tend to see the occasional backup timeout waiting for the FD in mid-job, for example when a client suddenly gets overloaded. Afterwards, there are no orphaned spool files. None of the jobs fail due to a Bacula bug as far as I can see, it's always a client-side issue. A job failing due to a timeout shouldn't reduce the total usable SD spool space though :) Sean -- Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. The last time > it used the full 50 GB was here: I've been seeing exactly the same behaviour here (CentOS 4.9, Bacula SD 5.0.3) for quite some time. However, until I saw your email I didn't correlate the max spool size reducing with each time a job crashes. I can also confirm that whenever a job crashes, the max spool size drops. The only workaround I can see at the moment is restarting the SD... [Bacula-users] Backing up Windows 2008 64-bit with VSS...
Hi All, I've now got a need to perform backups of a new 64-bit Windows 2008 Server. The current 32-bit Bacula agent runs ok up to a point, but unfortunately it's unable to perform backups using VSS. Eg: 28-Nov 22:59 win2k8-fd JobId 12291: Warning: VSS was not initialized properly. VSS support is disabled. ERR=An attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist. I've searched the users & dev archives and I've read some discussion about work done in this area and I'm wondering if someone's produced some binaries we can test with yet? Re: [Bacula-users] Restore job alters a volumes LastWritten value?
Oops... replying to myself... It appears this is a known issue with Bacula v2.2.5 & has a patch available. I should have searched the archives BEFORE sending my first email :) Sean - SF.Net email is sponsored by: Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. [Bacula-users] Restore job alters a volumes LastWritten value?
Hi all, A week ago I restored some files from a tape marked as full & recyclable. This morning during a normal backup run I expected this tape to be recycled and purged like all the tapes previous to it have. However this did not happen, instead another tape was purged and recycled. After looking at my volume list I can see that the LastWritten value on the tape has been updated with the date/time of when I ran the restore job. Nothing in my logs suggests any more data has been written to the tape. Is this expected behaviour? Is there a way of preventing this from happening again on future restore jobs? On day one I got it > up and running and backing up multiple computers (windows and > linux both). I've been using Bacula for approx 1 month now to backup a range of servers (Linux + Windows 2003) and an office full of Windows XP/Vista machines. Before moving to Bacula I was a fairly happy Amanda user, the only gripe I had with Amanda for a very long time was "proper" Windows client support (I now believe there is a native Windows client). Just over a month ago I decided to evaluate Bacula. After a few days of hacking configuration scripts & virtually re-writing the "fake autoloader" mtx-changer script[1] I had a fully operational backup system. For a couple of weeks I ran Bacula & Amanda side-by-side and last week made the decision to completely shut off Amanda. When first starting out, Bacula appears to be extremely complex. Spending a bit of time reading the docs, wiki & example configs before diving in can work wonders! Sean [1] A copy of my very hacky script can be found on the Bacula wiki at http://wiki.bacula.org/doku.php?id=sample_configs#faking_an_auto-changer _with_one_tape_drive - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
