After installing a new big-smp kernel everythings works ok again. You can download the latest firmware for the paketloader and the tapedrive directly from exabyte (the originale manufacturer of the tapeloader) under http://www.exabyte.com/support/online/downloads/index.cfm. The usage of the alternative aic7xxx module is just a workaround for the bad firmware off the tapedrive. the actual fw for the tapedrive is V13206 (which has the problem with the aic7xxx module) but a new version is coming soon. I have an older V13205 which works fine with the aic77xx. For flashing a new firmware you have to use the "libtool" for linux (for flashing fw into packetloader) or the "vxatool" for linux (for flashing the drives fw). I read, that bacula tries to mount the tape and all of a sudden it
works
No userintervention is known to me.
