Hello, thank you very much ;o)

So I have decided that I should finally upgrade my 5.2.12-based backup
site to something newer. So I have upgraded server, then 20+ client
nodes...

And then I have found, that some services started to fail.

And disaster began...

Please, why there is

installdirs:
...
chmod 770 $(DESTDIR)$(sysconfdir)
...

in Makefile.in? I had sysconfdir set to /usr/local/etc in FreeBSD
and /etc in Linux, so everywhere I have put new bacula,
I accidentally cut off access to these system directories to
non-root services and programs. (Bug report 2205.)

(I also filled one minor problem, with id 2204).

Best regards and good night...

Hello Randy,

Thanks I made it to San Francisco, now the next step is to Sydney next
Monday.

Thanks for supporting us by purchasing the Windows binaries. :-)

Hello Kern,

FYI:

I had already downloaded and ran the personal version. And now am proud
to say I have paid for it based on your
response. Glad to help, especially if/when it is affordable!

Also, you should know that the version that is there is already 7.4.0,
my question was more of if there was a different
version for those that paid for it but I guess that makes no sense since
7.4.0 is the latest release. At any rate safe
travels please!

---snip---

If you go to www.bacula.org -> Downloads -> Download Center you will
find where you can download the Windows binaries for 7.2.0 or 7.4.0 for
personal use free of charge. However, if you are a hosting company, you
should go to Bacula Systems and purchase the binaries. I prefer to
consider the modest fee a donation for more open source features for
those who really can afford to make a donation, but the real reason is
that it is simply to compensate Bacula Systems for the work they pay to
be done (writing code, building the package, making it available). No it
is not a Windows issue. I am not 100% sure that they currently have the
7.4.0 binaries, but the 7.2.0 binaries *should* work with a 7.4.0
community version. If you *really* need a non-personal use license for
the 7.4.0 binaries, please contact me directly at k...@sibbald.com.
However, I will be off-line for a couple of days while travelling.

If you go to www.bacula.org -> Downloads -> Download Center
you will find where you can download the Windows binaries for 7.2.0 or
7.4.0 for personal use free of charge.

However, if you are a hosting company, you should go to Bacula Systems
and purchase the binaries. I prefer to consider the modest fee a
donation for more open source features for those who really can afford
to make a donation, but the real reason is that it is simply to
compensate Bacula Systems for the work they pay to be done (writing
code, building the package, making it available). No it is not a
Windows issue. I am not 100% sure that they currently have the 7.4.0

Ran my script yesterday to upgrade all the FD's, took 4 times as long as
I thought it would!
All backups running without a hitch, much thanks for a successful
upgrade! I don't take
this for granted.

FYI - I am backing up one Windows VM instance, according to Bacula it
seems we must pay
for a license to do this? a) Is the software with the $25 license any
different than the personal
download (not that I really care, will buy the license regardless)? b)
Is this licensing in order to
compensate the packager for doing the compile or is it some Windows
related issue, just curious?

Thanks,

certain FD dependent features may not be available so it is advisable to
upgrade them when you can.

I like to install from scratch on Ubuntu Server and try to use the correct
paths, users, permissions, and anything related, etc. by researching the
web. I think I'm getting the hang of it.

But I've also installed from the Ubuntu repos, which was version 5.2.6 last
I checked. Can anyone create and submit a package, or is it done through
official channels?

I've never created a package, so I'm hoping it's not too difficult. :)
