Re: How to make BBEdit save changes automatically when closing window?

2019-01-29 Thread TJ Luoma
Do you close windows by pressing ⌘W or by clicking on the title bar button?

If the former, there's probably a way to re-map ⌘W to save-then-close…
if not, you could surely do so with Keyboard Maestro.

If by clicking … I don't think there's a way to avoid the dialog, but
I might be wrong.

How to make BBEdit save changes automatically when closing window?

2019-01-29 Thread Gustavo Deschamps
It's so engrained on me that when you close a window on macOS the changes
are saved that getting the dialog every time is bugging me.

Any way to save it automatically as the default behavior?

Thank you!

RTF files are not text files, even though RTF files consist
primarily of recognizable plain text -- it's an implementation detail.

By opening or explicitly choosing an RTF, you've bypassed
BBEdit's file filtering (which is used when scanning folders).

So, you could add "rtf" to the extension mappings in the
Languages prefs (map it to "Text File") if this is something you
need to do routinely.

BBEdit (12.5.2 (411070, 64-bit) evaluation) only searching (rtfd) file in folder if it's open

2019-01-29 Thread Jim Witte
I have a strange problem that just popped up. I have a file (now named
"TestFile") that is an RTF (not RTFD). If I open the file, or drag it into
the "My Files & Folders" list in the Multi-File search dialog, and run a
search for a string in it, it will find it. But if search for the same
string with the containing *folder* selected, it won't find it. This
(mis)behavior doesn't happen with any other files in the folder. I tried
moving the folder to another (it's now in "~/Documents"), and it didn't
work there either. I ran Disk Utility and it found a "directory valence
error" (which it seemed to hang on the repair, but when I restarted in
Restore mode, and ran Disk Utility from that, fortunately it could). I
tried copying the text to a new file (same folder), a new file (in ~/), and
the error still persists.

If I convert the file to plain text instead of rtf, it does find it.

Any ideas? I am using the latest Mojave Beta (10.14.4 Beta (18E174f)),
which I suppose *might* be a reason.

You could buy a license for them. :-)

Or you can accept the time spent on explaining the evaluation
period to them as an alternative. It's probably cheaper than
buying them a license.

Syntax error checking Ibn BBEdit

2019-01-29 Thread @lbutlr
BBEdit (12.5.2) gives me an encoding error when checking syntax:

~/Documents/test.html 3:154: Value of attribute “href” for element “” is
invalid; URL path needs encoding
(“mailto:admin@example?Subject=27-Jan-2019%2043nyCZ43y4zcfChBody=Search%20this%20message%20ID%20in%20mailG.log.”).

But the W3 validator says the syntax is fine.

What is BBEdit's complaint about?

The only reason I care is when working on this file it’s kind of impossible to
check for actual errors because I get 300 lines worth of encoding errors.

Re: Decent HTML list?

2019-01-29 Thread Oliver Boermans
For help with HTML email perhaps try here: https://litmus.com/community
HTML in email is a difficult area, especially if you are learning HTML/CSS
itself. Email clients handle it very differently to browsers.
Good luck.
